Decommissioned Graphix Fire Tender, Dounreay Power Station - the iconic golf ball housing the redundant nuclear reactor at the rear of the appliance can just be seen. The fire tender was specifically built to provide the unique fire-fighting requirements to encapsulate the reactor's cooling medium - Sodium metal which melted at exceptional high temperatures to provide core cooling -

Glad you found it open! I've tried to visit three times, and it's been closed. I thought it had ceased trading.
Obviously I'll have to try again when I'm up there in July. |
