I always liked the look of the Viva van. One i remember servicing regularly, (although we were a BMC garage) was a green and yellow "Lake & Elliot" one, with half a bottle jack fastened to each side, to advertise their products.
I won't be surprised at all, if someone has a picture of one. |

Nice to see another commercial
BT used to run thousands of HA vans in the 70's, yet you see very few these days.

I had an ex Gas Board inspectors Bedford Beagle when I was 18, great little van. I swap the Rover for another Beagle in an instant. You could, I did, buy an Viva SLl90 engine for £20 from the scrappies and swap it in an afternoon. So easy to work on. Happy Days. |

When i read the word "inspector" on BigJohn,s post, i remembered that my cousin used to drive one of these vans painted in the local Trent Bus livery.
When he started with Trent, he was classed as a junior driver, being at 17 or 18, too young to hold a PSV license. One of his jobs, was to drive an inspector around the bus routes, pull up at a stop so the inspector could catch the bus. Then he followed on alone, while the tickets were all checked, stopping at each stop until the inspector alighted again. He enjoyed that job, and the van was so much better equipped and pleasant to drive, compared to the 1954 Popular he owned back then. |

I have a constant memory of an HA van, I was underneath torqueing a big end bearing on one (had to drop the suspension X member to get the sump off) when the wrench slipped and my hand went right along the crankshaft! Ripped the nail straight off of my little finger, that was around 1970 and the nail grew back crooked and is still like that today. Closest I ever came to using foul language........

After sitting idle for a while, work begun on the van in earnest late last year!
It needs sills, and has had a bad accident repair on the drivers side, but it's all being dealt with. Plans are the get all the welding done and the shell primered first then it can be moved into the 'paint booth' for painting and re-assembly. We are also considering making it a Brabham GT replica too, so if anyway has any Brabham parts like an inlet manifold, carbs or a dash binnacle let me know! _________________ 2013 Dodge Durango R/T Hemi
