Lovely car. They can be difficult at times, but when they are right they're great.

Hi, I'm a member of the Pre67 Ford O.C. here in Scotland. Would you mind if I put a copy of the pic of your Pilot on our forum? Thanks,JD.

Can anyone recommend a decent electronic ignition system to fit a twin point flathead V8 distributor?

The points on mine have given up the ghost and I really don't feel like changing them every few months, When you see where the dizzy is on these, you'll understand why!

I've checked out Accuspark and they only seem to do the single point set-up.

Thanks

Gavin

I think Pertronics should do something.

If you are having recurring point problems make sure the ballast resistor has not been bypassed, it should be on the bulkhead under the dash. I am probably telling you something you already know, but the easiest way to set the points is take the distributor out. 3 bolts and the vacuum pipe, 10minute job. Putting it back is no problem because it is driven by an offset key. Point gap is really critical for good performance. Ford dealers used to use a fixture for setting the dwell with the distributor off the engine

Be interesting to see how you set the system up with electronic ignition, I believe it is difficult enough with single points replacement units.

It's strange how values change, I recall a friend who had a pilot in the 1960s He couldn't give it away.

Too thirsty, and low wages didn't help.

I hope the valves don't need attention, the Ford system is very awkward.

I worked on a Jensen a few years ago, Ford sidevalve V8, I still wince at the memory.

Regards Kels.

Thanks for your help guys, one electronic ignition kit ordered from Jolley Engineering. Not cheap but the only ones able to supply a system.
A note for anyone else with an old flathead V8, there are not many companies around that cater for the twin points system.
Accuspark and a UK Pertronix supplier were unable to help.

Now to find a decent exhaust supplier who can sort out some religious downpipes! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

You're one step ahead of me.. if you find a decent supplier for the exhaust I would be grateful for the info. I'm not having a lot of luck myself.

Good news on the ignition kit, I was put on to Jolley Engineering by a friend with a flathead but have to save my pennies for a bit (or sell a car LOL)

Hi Des
Where a outs are you?
I've seen a couple of websites advertising full stainless systems but they really aren't cheap!
