Dynalite alternators have been around for a while, but are pretty pricey, circa £350 just spotted these Stealth,alternators... they are only £99 Shocked has anyone any expirience of them?

They have a similar output (45A) to the Dynalite ,double the Lucas C40 dynamo, and charge at lower revs than a dynamo.

Cheers

Dave

I wonder if you can get the parts and overhaul them yourself? I did the C40 off the Herald last year - bearings were knackered - and it was quite an enjoyable little job for a change Smile

That's where I started, thinking I would get a C40 rebuild kit off ebay, that included, bearings , bush and brushes etc, found the kits at around £15, then spotted that a new C40 dynamo could be purchased for £45 Confused (attractive as the field winding insulation in mine looks a tad tired) then spotted these C40 style alternator Confused

I have ordered one, will report back on what its like !

Dave,

Are they negative earth only or is it just a case of connecting the appropriate terminal to earth. I notice that there are two large spade terminals so the casing would have to be neutral/insulated??

they are negative earth, I'd already made the decision to make the MGA negative earth, I'm presuming the terminals are insulated from the case.

The large and small terminals on these dynamos are insulated from the casing and are both the same polarity (at least for the purposes of this discussion) - positive on a negative earth car or negative on a positive earth car. The earth return is via the engine and dynamo casing. To change from positive to negative earth with a dynamo you don't chance the connections to the dynamo at all, just repolarise it.
