Hi,
My name is Andy and as you can guess from the username I own/ride a BSA A7 everyday to work(even in winter). I have just bought a car project of which some images are posted here. I will need plenty of help and encouragement and some identification help as well...
The engine is a Standard engine number bc124e chassis if the reg plate is to be believed is 1932-33 REG GY4896. No other documents. Gearbox is Standard but with a remote bolt on gear change,Brakes are 12 inch Hydraulic drums and axle is a large effort. I have not yet found any id numbers on either the axle or steering box. I am looking to build her up as a 1930's era sorty car thing. Thanks for looking let the adventure begin |

Rick,
From what we can see those are five stud steels with pretend spokes. The stud holes have been welded over and adapted for knock off hubs. I am in the process of removing surplus metal ,those shocks misc brackets and a steering damper on the front axle. |

I was told it was raced at Crystal Palace under its then body an Ashely Sportiva so the twin SU's and four branch exhaust even a cutaway sump tend towards racing. The fuel pump flange was blanked off and I don't know where the oil filter was plumbed in-yet. |

Peter,
I had the same idea about the SSII but is there anyway to prove it one way or the other? |

I think there is only a limited number of top covers used on the Standard (Moss) gearbox.
Your casting looks to me to be the same.
Here's the box used on the SSI and SSII.

Hi Andy,
Your's has an alloy head (I think) and I think that Standard cars had cast iron heads. So again this suggests SSII to me.
Not terribly relevant but will give you some drawings (although not your gearbox top):

I have Standard 12/14hp workshop manual and parts list if you need any info.

Peter,
Thanks for your replies so far. Yes the head is alloy. The Standard club said it might be a 10 but then admitted he had matched the engine number I gave to the commission/chassis number on the pretext they were similar . This engine is a mystery, where all the Standards have the upper pulley for I assume the water pump and fan, mine there is nothing and there has never been anything there. Any info you can give me would be great. |

Hi Andy,
As you can see in the engine cross section in my link and the SSII manual in the JagLovers brochures the SSII does have a water pump and fan pulley. Is there not a blanking plate where the pump should be? It seems an odd omission though.
Your chassis looks rather like a 1932 Standard Little Nine and its engine doesn't have a water pump, Just thermo syphon.
The Little Nine is 1005 cc, 60.25mm bore x 88 mm stroke.
Wheelbase 7' 6".

I will have to get some more pics. There is what looks like core plug but no visible signs of mounting bolt holes for the fan pulley assembly. It looks just like the clutch end casing in the picture. Would somebody really have raced a little nine with what looks like an SSII box?

Just found a pic of a little nine and it does not compare on a lot of points the head layout for one and even that has an upper pulley of sorts |

I agree, about the engine but the chassis might still be little nine.
What's your wheelbase?
