I have seen a Fog light used as a reversing light, just a single one providing a wide low spread of light, may need a relay to give the switch an easier life, but worth a thought. As an option, I have also seen combined rear fog, and reversing lights as an after-market item. _________________ KA

You need something from James Bond or Thunderbirds like the number plate light swivelling round to light your way. |

I have seen this one online that wouldn't look too bad mounted below the bumper in the middle. It looks like good quality but nearly £40!!!!!!!!

I was wondering if I could modify a rear light lens and remove the reflector at the bottom and replace it with a clear lens? |

Very nice looking lamp.
This was just posted to Facebook. You could adapt this elegant idea.

Crumbs why are three people sitting on a settee smiling about with a 500 engine lid with a dodgy rear light on their laps.
Perhaps they are buying a car in instalments? |

They are studying for the follow-up to Slumdog Millionaire, with a specialisation in Fiat Engine covers, and rare fog lights as aftermarket items. I am also concerned where the arms and hands are belonging to the middle man, and that may account for the smiles on the other two faces! _________________ KA

Oh I didn't notice his lack of hands but that smirk does look suspicious. |

As it was a bit warmer today I ventured out to the garage to do some work on the engine and gearbox.
I fitted a new clutch and release bearing last time I was working on it and now it was simply a case of joining the engine and gearbox back together, refit the starter motor and set the tappets gap.
I was hoping to spray the tinwork that surrounds the engine bay but needed to apply some Kurust to some bits and it can't be sprayed for 3 hours after application.
Once the tinwork has been sprayed I can carry on with the rebuild and I am waiting for some bits from Germany, including a rebuild kit for the carb.

It's funny how conventional the setup looks, bolted together without the cowling. I would never have thought of doing the cowling afterwards.
It looks very smart. |

I got around to painting the cowling today, it needs another couple of coats but I have to wait 24 hours before I can apply them. Then I will probably stick it in the oven for a bit to cure it off nicely, the paint can handle 120°.
Went for a nice gloss finish as per the original, really nice finish but I did manage to spray myself in the face at one point try to get the trigger handle off the top of an almost empty tin.

Shiny shiny. Look like they're made out of treacle. |

Yes that's what I was using Kev, trying to pull the handle off was when I sprayed myself in the face.
They are really good, makes spraying with cans so much easier. I got it free when I ordered some cans on the Internet.
I must say I do think I have ever seen paint this glossy before. |

Thanks Jens it's all going back together now, so hopefully by next week I should be able to bench test it.
