Hi Guys

I'm new to the forum but far from new to classic cars.

I love them even though they're sometimes hard work.

In exchange for an old motorbike I've acquired a 1961 Austin Cambridge A55 mark 2.

The engine has a bit of a rumble so I'm planning to swap out the engine and box for those from an MGB.

In theory it should be pretty much a straight swap. That's the thing about theories though, they only work on paper.

The car is also fitted with MGB Rostyles which do not look right. I've been offered a set of MGB wheels and tyres which might look right but I want to be sure before I fit them.

Has anyone got any experience of this engine swap?

What are the pitfalls?

Any advice on nicer than standard wheels and tyres would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Welcome to the forum Smile

Good to see another Cambridge owner on here, I had a '59 a little while ago. I can't help with your question about the upgrade, but I'd have thought the engine would go in ok, although maybe the sump from the original engine would need swapping over?

front and backplates will need swapping from the original engine as the mgb ones are different .maybe just the front plate as the engine mounts fit differently from one to the other .I think the tunnel needs altering for the mgb box too .
