I need a little help regarding Ford clutches. Briefly, a friend of mine, is restoring an old Hibberd 18" gauge loco. It has a Lister single cylinder engine, and a Ford gearbox. He has been told, he needs a Ford Popular clutch for it, so i thought i would treat him to one, as a contribution to the job. So, can anyone say if the E93 type is the same as a 100E?
As the loco dates from 1956-ish, i suppose it could be either type fitted.
Didn't have time to count the splines, on the 1st motion shaft, yesterday, or measure the flywheel to aid sorting it out. The actual clutch is missing, but there is a release bearing, still attached to the seized release arm.
Also, it is listed as having a Lucas CA45 starter motor, can anyone say if this is used on any common car? Hope you all can help. |

Hi
I scent another running engine at Steeple Grange.
Is it a new one or a refurb on one they already had? _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Peter, thank you for the Lucas lists, we should sort something from them, i would think.
penman, it's a "new" loco, it's been around for a while, buried in the top shed. never run at SGLR. Hoping to have it running next year.
Roger, thanks for that, looks like we are back to counting splines and measuring, before deciding which pop type clutch was used. Possibly, if some numbers can be found on the gearbox it would help. It has a gear lever that only seems to select 2nd and 3rd, were it in a car. Listers usually only have a low and high gear, each way, so maybe the 1st and reverse gate is blocked out. Forward and reverse are selected with a separate lever on the final drive box. |

E93, and 100e clutches are different. They do have the same number of splines in the centre plate, but the cover is different, the 100E cover is slightly bigger and will not fit in the E93 flywheel, the E93 will fit the 100e, but not vise-versa. If you are adept with a file you can make them fit as the 'oversize' is around 1mm.
As a by-the-way, the clutch used in the Midget has the same amount of centre plate splines, but the flywheel will need machining to fit the cover. _________________ KA
