There is a distinct lack of underseal hiding bodged repairs like so many older cars you view over here in the UK.

I have found that most cars I have viewed over in the central or southern areas of France are not affected by the damp or salt laden roads like we used to have over here in the 1950`s/1960`s.

I just wish I could find a MK2 Jaguar or similar car in a barn in the condition of this car. It would make the job of restoration so much easier.

When purchasing, fabricating and replacing body panels it eats into your budget no end, especially if you employ someone to carry out the work on your behalf. Buying the most rust free project gives you a head start by many months......I know I have been there many times before. Exclamation Exclamation

That is a brilliant find. I can't believe how solid it is!

Woaw - that brings back memories from 42 years ago.

The older boys (15 to 17) use to buy cars of the 2 brothers that owned the local scrapyard next to us.

They then raced them around on our field in a sort of demoletion race, untill they wouldnt drive anymore Rolling Eyes then they pushed/pulled the wrecks back to the scrapyard.

One of the cars was one of these 4CV,s Smile

I would recommend that you keep this nice car original.

Its unrestored cars like this, that more & more people want to see.

you can always restore it later on, but once restored, you can never go back.

I am just going to get the car running and roadworthy.

For the remainder of the season (a few more shows) I am not even going to clean it.

I will then just clean it up and use it as an original oily rag re-commissioned car.

I know shiny paint would look very good on it but as you say it is original, untouched, unrestored so leave it alone.

I took the Renault 4CV to the Holmewood Hall 1940`s event along with our vintage caravan display.

The car went down a storm.. It received much more interest than the finished show quality cars.

It was still covered in the dust and dirt from when I found it in the barn.

I had much interest from not just petrol head males, but a lot of females
loved the small cute looks of the car.
Some astounded me by knowing all about the model of car, some of the older ladies remember driving or being passengers in the cars when new.

After a few false starts I got the engine running this evening.
Now the clutch and brakes need attention. G.F

With the engine running a treat, the cable clutch operating correctly, it was time to silence the noisy rear exhaust silencer.

Being a rear engine car the exhaust pipe exists through the egine bay floor,a silencer then runs sideways along the rear of the car underneath with a small bend to exist out the rear.

The silencer had seen better days.

Looking around my pieces of exhaust systems I spied a Morris Minor silencer. It was the same length and diameter as the Renault one.

I removed the Renault support bracket welded to the silencer, welded it onto the Morris silencer, cut the silencer section out of the Morris exhaust
pipe and fitted it in place.

Even the bend at the exhaust point is the same, it works a treat and fits so well......more money saved. What would a genuine exhaust silencer for a Renault 4Cv cost.?

Sit down.....105.00 euro.

Now the engine runs sweet and silent, and it cost me nothing..

Two beers tonight then. Very Happy
