Hi my Name is Tony i'm up near Cairns (Far North Queensland) Australia, just new to the forum.
I have just found myself a 1938 Morris 8-40 Roadster and will be attempting a ground-up restoration, as you will see from the photo's if I get them to up load this little gem is slightly different from other Morris's that I have seen as the doors are forward swung and not suicide hinged as most Morris's that I see in pictures.

As you can see the RH rear guard has been cut off ? The car belonged to a lady in our office, it was her fathers car from new, he had sold the car and after he had past away she tracked the car down on some farm where they had been using it as a stationary pump, using the back wheel to drive the belt to the pump.

The motor was still running as far as known aprox. 8yrs ago, it still turns by crank.

Oh well hope you like the pictures, not sure if the last four have up-loaded, I will post more as I go.
Cheers for now.
Tony

Another one of your photos blown up for detail:

Really like the shape of the car's coachwork.

Hi Tony,

I went to your account on photobucket (based on the path to the small versions of your pictures), clicked on a small version of a photo one at a time, that opened up a new page with the bigger version. On the RHS there are several links that can be copied, I copied the Direct link and used that, clicking the IMG button once, pasting in the link, then clicking the IMG button a second time here on the forum.

Hi Tony

There are a few others on the forum restoring Morris 8 (8/40) Tourers. It's interesting to note how much the bodywork is different from the UK assembled cars.

Looking forward to seeing progress Smile

The tinwork doesn't look too bad, how's the wooden framing doing behind the outer skin?

Your Morris certainly IS different to any I have seen previously.

Quite awesome actually especially the bodyline embelishments. It will be an absolute pearler once done up. Do you have the bonnet flaps, windscreen and hood bows? One of our members has a Series I Dickie Seat Roadster but his has the suicide doors. So maybe I can get some pattern making done for you(no promises).

I can't wait to see progress as it occurs Cool

Hey Tony and good to see another Queenslander in here. Look forward to seeing the project evolve. Have a 48 E series 4 door saloon myself. You`ll get top level help in here if you need it. ukdave2002 is a font of info

Hi Rick,
not sure if this is the way to reply to your post, do I just use the Quote tab to reply ?
Anyway the tin outer bodywork is all fairly sound, one rust hole in left hand rear gaurd, and the floor is mostly rotten. The timber frame all has dry rot but as I am a quallified carpenter and jioner I will be looking at removing the frame and copying all the pieces, I hope to get hold of some Victorian Ash timber to do this, unless it is possible to source the coach work from somewhere in the homeland. Altough this may not be practicable as the body & coachwork may all have been done here in Australia, not sure where yet but the previous owner has done some ground work on this.

Hey Rosco
As Im totaly new to this Confused Im presuming embelishments are the bodylines ? I can't wait to start one striping her down, just getting the new shed put up first, then all guns a blazzing.
Yes I do have the bonnet and windscreen but unforetunately I do not have the hood bows, so will be trying to source this when the time comes.

Cheers

Hi Tony

Looking at your pictures, the hood/bonnet looks to be standard Morris 8, so hopefully sourcing parts won't be too difficult Smile

Cheers

Yep using the quote button works fine Smile

The main body frame and panelwork all look to be Australian built, attached to the original Morris front panels (wings, bonnet, rad surround etc). This was common practice for imported vehicles into Oz, otherwise they were hit with substantial import taxes as I recall - perhaps roverdriver will be able to elaborate. My Dodge tourer, and the Bedford ute, were both bodied in Oz yet utilised factory front panels in the same way.

I'm guessing you'll have seen this already, but there's some interesting background info on the 8/40 in Australia here:

http://bmcexperience.com.au/bmce-issue6/morris-8-40.html

Note the photo of the slightly earlier, Series 1 style (spoked wheels, chrome rad) roadster. As your in Queensland, perhaps yours was bodied by Hope's Body Works.

Gidday Tony,

I'll talk to Kerry and see if I can make a pattern of his hood bows Cool They may be close if not the same. Yes the body lines are quite interesting.

Cheers
