Welcome to the forum, that looks fab.

Would you mind posting a selection on here too, just that I don't think non-Facebookers would be able to view them (unless I'm mistaken?).

Nice pictures, I like the Aquaplane rev counter. Is the alloy bracket near the starter for a dynamo? All I have left from my Ford Special are a pair of mc2's, just like your before picture, I'm working on them, pistons are stuck

Yes, aquaplane dynamo bracket. They claim in their sales blurb it increases performance!
I am looking for a pair of air filters for my mc2 carbs if anyone has them.

Good pictures, hope the picture of the split skirt piston was shown, just before it hit the bottom of the trash can!
I have quite strong opinions about using 'period tuning add-ons' no names to protect the innocent.
The exhaust manifolds are a work of art, unfortunately they are too big, and to get torque, a smaller manifold is required. The essential thing about exhaust design is to get the reflected echo from the first bend/obstruction the gasses hit in time with the point the inlet valve is shutting and the valve overlap. The after-market manifold was made to fit the standard exhaust system set up.
Carburetors; there is lots of data proving twin carbs handle high gas speed flow, better than single carbs at high engine speeds, if you have a standard cam, with max power at 3800, or even the H89/H90 cam, max power is upped to around 4200, this does not rate as a high gas speed. Effective gas mixing through a single carb gives better torque, more fuel economy and negligible drop off in power at higher (not high) revs.
I also have my view on the aluminium cylinder heads, an excellent basis to develop combustion chambers from the standard shape, fitted un-worked, gives a similar compression to the 8hp head. If you really want to use the head to get some compression, use the standard 10hp head and machine 3mm from it. This ups compression to around 8-1, and maintains the 'scollop' effect in the head for gas-flow.
Have I drifted from the original thread? excellent pictures, very pretty red engine, have you worked the inside to match the external work?

Thanks.
I started the engine again yesterday, after fully unscrewing the oil regulator valve.
Gauge read 30psi on tick over, so I turned it until 40psi.
This may be a homemade device, I haven't heard of one before.

The vibration is incredibly low, you can rest a cup of tea on the header tank! I don't remember my old Pop from the 80's being so smooth. pick up is brisk too. ignition timing was guessed, will set it up on the road (up a hill).

I too am having trouble with hoses. Is there a way to soften the old ones? They are 1 1/2" universal hose with convolutions, if that is the correct term.
I bought new stainless clips.

Another problem I am having is the sender unit has dissolved with contact with fuel.
I repaired it with epoxy, but there is a slight leak causing air being sucked in. I will take it apart and try again with Liquid metal, which is also epoxy, but with black pigment and something else in it!

Does anyone know the correct resistor size for the fuel gauge and sender to convert it to 12v? otherwise I will have to get out my power supply, ohms law, and have a bash.

Replying to Ka,
Thanks points noted. The Aquaplane parts are quaint though, aren't they!

I did work allot on the internals. Setting the gap on the Cords engineered rings took forever. I elected not to fit the very thin Aquaplane head gasket, and put a new original one in, bringing the compression ratio back towards standard. The carbs were a challenge, I replaced everything needed, and freed off the pistons, both bodies had been whacked causing them to stick.

The engine had only done a few hundred miles since being built in 1959 so everything was in good condition. Everything was stuck together though and I had too free everything. Valves showed very little wear and I ground them carefully. One of my photos shows that mice had been nesting in the sump, and they left all their old nut shells to remind me. There was a birds nest in the fuel tank, complete with 3 dead baby chicks and a family of hedgehogs had been living in the body for quite some considerable time!

I also use a Facet fuel pump, can be a bit too efficient with the SU.s, I run a filter pressure reducer set up. Pleased to read the rest though, I picked up a 10 hp engine, ex RAF, used as a Glider towing motor, Ford recon, as new inside, just a bit gummed up.

Looking at their website there are seven different versions with different flow rates. Maybe yours is to high?

with one of these fitted:
Malpassi Filter King Fuel Pressure Regulator And Filter

Filters and regulates pressure.
