The following snapshots turned up a while ago, so it seems like high time to give them a mention here, even though they're technically not all that hot.

The date was 20/09/1958, which happened to be Battle of Britain Day, an event celebrated with open days and displays at many RAF airfields in parallel. Sadly the day became perhaps best remembered for the crash of Avro Vulcan B1 prototype VX770 at RAF Syerston (an account of which can be found here: http://www.freewebs.com/keithstevenson/vulcancrash.htm).

I'm not sure where the following snaps were taken, a Vulcan features but I think it's the development aircraft XA903, rather than VX770.

Hope they're of interest anyway Smile

Hi
If that is 903 then it had 2 underslung engine test beds, the 593 Concorde engine in a nacelle resembling half of the Concord's twin nacelle, it was later converted to carry the RB199 Tornado engine complete with reheat and thrust reverser.
