I haven't been around for a while but it has been great looking through the posts and seeing a few 'old friends'

My collection of French cars is around the 18 mark now but my most recent is a very rare Mercedes.
Its a w126 S Class, I know its on the edge of 'classic' being a 1990 car but what makes it rare is that its a 560SE.
There is very little reference to it anywhere as it was made to be exclusive to existing S-Class clients on MBs books. There is only a subtle reference to it in the brochures of 1989/90.
The 5.6 engine was only fitted prior to this in the V126 SEL (long wheelbase) or the C126 SEC (Coupe)
There was only a total of 1251 cars built of which only a handful still exist.
It had all the extras afforded to the 560SEL (top of the range) and cost £50,000 when new.
I found it in Spain in November last year and bought it blind, my son and I did a road trip to collect it. Plane, Train and drive it back to my place in France, which was a 1000 mile trip home.
This is one of the first pictures on the trip home.
I drove it for about a week to 'suss' it out and then have set about bringing it up to scratch.
Its nearly ready to drive out of the barn and give its first proper detailing.

I have started a blog about it http://mb560se.blogspot.fr and have had a fair bit of interest from the classic mags to do a feature on it due to its rarity.
Its been tweaked by AMG and even though its a 2 tonne car it does 0-60 in 5.5 sec.

Good to hear from you again, dad had a W126 500SEL a few years ago, and coincidentally I spotted a 126 on sale, and looking very out of place, at a local (modern stuff) car dealer earlier today.

So is this a keeper?

I have had a 500SE for about 6 years and it has been brilliant as my 'daily'
I am sure you probably know, if any of the Mercedes cars make good investments its the 'rare ones'

So its a keeper for now but never say never Cool

V126, W126...
These Mercedes codes gets confusing, as are the BMW codes. E36.
If you had not put up a pic I would not have known.
I am good in knowing the British car codes but not for the Germans.
Is there a site somewhere which explain what is what?

(I'm not a fan at all of Mercedes / BMW by the way)

Greeney, could you do me a favour and just check the email addy you have in your profile. The automatic email prompts, when there are replies to threads you've subscribed to, are bouncing so I guess you have an old address logged in there.

thanks, RJ

Hi Nick,

Just had another look as I'm still getting error emails, the domain with which your email address is associated expired and now requires renewal, as of 9th March 2014. This may be causing the email address to act up .. maybe?

Bad practice to answer my own question but I have bookmarked this page:

I did answer you too with a post... Cool

I forgot to say though that 99% of people refer to the 126 as W126 but officially this just designates that it is the normal chassis V126 is LWB and C126 is the Coupé

Agree - you did answer but the page I found is just a bit more comprehensive. It also explains the W and V etc prefixes.
