Didn't get to chat, but I did see the car on Sunday! Very different to how I last saw it!! I too think it looks better with the chrome left as it was, but I think you've done a very stylish job of converting it into a pickup body - it's not something that a lot of people do well! I am very jealous though as Alvis are my favourite car maker ever... A TA14 DHC is top of my list of affordable dream cars!

I saw you following me home as we left the site - I was in the Land Rover camper! I pulled in to move some stuff in that back that was rolling around and driving me insane, and the Alvis sounded nice as it burbled past!

The proportions remind me of the 1930s Diamond Ts a bit.

it is very similar rick, when I started the conversion, I wanted the Alvis to look like an old farm truck and looking at your photo of the Diamond.....I didn't do too bad Very Happy

well after the issues with the crankcase pressurizing and blowing oil out of the breather....mentioned here...
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16259

I've decided to remove the engine and rebuild it with new piston rings, bearings and seals etc etc..

I'm just uploading the photos from today to photobucket, then I'll get them posted

so the engine rebuild.....

rocker cover removed...my plan at this point was to remove the pistons from the block whilst it was still in the truck......

cylinder head removed...

pistons removed and you can see the glazed bores...

2 of the 4 pistons...

all that was was done last week to evaluate the problem.......
this was todays progress....

block removed from car...

block completely stripped and ready for a thorough clean....

and made a start cleaning the block....

soaking in de-greaser....

so tomorrow, I'm hoping to finish de-greasing it, then wire-wheel the outside of it (ready for some fresh paint), hone it ready for the new rings and clean it all again.......more pics after tomorrows session Wink

engine block fully de-greased and clean....

honed and wire wheeled.....

you'll notice the new bolts in some of the bolt holes, they are from my extensive stock of imperial nuts and bolts....

block painted satin black......

and as it looks tonight, a few bits re-installed....

more tomorrow...

thanks for the comments, it is very satisfying its so easy to work on compared to a modern car....except for the weight of it...it is a very very heavy engine.

Today's progress....

Flywheel fitted...

timing chain and tensioner fitted...

cleaned out threads and new bolts for the sump..

timing chain cover re-fitted....

new sump gasket made...

more tomorrow... although I'm waiting for the new piston rings to arrive, so may move on to rebuilding the cylinder head.....I've not decided yet.

sump cleaned inside and out....

the big bolts sticking out of the sides are to put slings around to make moving the engine a bit easier. Wink

and made a start stripping the cylinder head....

more tomorrow....

Jason,

It looks a very robust engine. I've never seen a triple roller timing chain before. The bearings look really big too. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Art, its a very robust engine, I could only just lift the bare block by hand....I've no chance of lifting it with the crankshaft and flywheel fitted!

today's progress....

Cylinder head de-greasing...

All de-greased and wire wheeled....

Cylinder head painted satin black, valves lapped and nearly ready to fit to the engine. I've to make a new water jacket end plate as I damaged the old one removing it.
I also cleaned up the cylinder head studs....

more tomorrow......
