I am starting a British Classic car restoration company. Starting small. One car at a time. Low risk with a low and slow return. Could be a sleeping investor or a hands on. Once established, I would like to expand but be realistic. My plans depend on the size of investment. No time wasters. Contact Dean on 07807 510154. |

Totally understand the time issue, be a shame though rick as it can/could be a valuable asset to members.
Could it not be set up so the ad cannot be placed unless a correct phone number is included..sort of a password?
Or, could a moderator be appointed to review all wanted/for sale ads and approve them?

Time to re-code the forum would be an issue. It shouldn't be necessary, the t&cs, such as they are, aren't exactly onerous.

No money in it my friend, unless you are a well known and well respected marque specialist. And even then it's extremely difficult.
If you intend to do perfect, quality work, you won't make a living at it. _________________ 2000 Jaguar XJ8 4.0 LWB

I disagree, I accept that restoring most mainstream vehicles from start to finish won't ever be profitable , but niche restoration suppliers, specialising in crafts like bodywork fabrication , transmission rebuilds, engine machining, painting etc will always be in demand , supporting the home restorer.

like anything in life ,you can make a good living if you have the right attitude ,everyone involved in car restoration had to start from a small venture and build from that ,unless you had enough money to get top of the range equipment ,you can only spend what you have and if you enjoy working on cars give it a go ,good luck wayne aps |

Sorry Rick I am a newbie and didn't realise.
However, I disagree with some posts. You can make money. Maybe not millions but you can. You just need to be clever and a bit lucky and be realistic.
Thanks for the encouragement Wayne. |

Anyone with the ability to work on classic cars and repair them correctly can charge at least £45.00 per hour.....no profit in that.?
I recently replaced the clutch on my Rover P4 100 myself total hours taken 12.
Just out of interest I was quoted £500.00 labour.
£600.00 labour
£650.00 labour.
No profit in that.?

I have been asked to restore and regularly service a number of cars locally, trouble is I work full time so haven't got the spare time to do it. It would be lovely to give up the day job and work on classics but like I say to my wife we have to be realistic.
Its something I would definitely think of when the kids have left school and there's less financial pressure on us.
I do think there is a living to be made in it, based on quality of service, knowledge and an open easy manner with the customers. |
