I am currently restoring this vehicle. I purchased her in 2002 after being in storage for many years. Many parts had been lost over the years and the car was about 75% complete. I had no luck in finding any missing parts and started making some of the missing bits in November 2013. I eventually found a bonnet in Texas through the Velie Register. I drove the car for the first time on 31 May 2014. Now that the car is 95% complete, the cosmetic restoration can begin.

Many thanks for posting the photos of your interesting car, I've not heard of the Velie before.

This is an article that was published in our local Club Magazine earlier this year.

Looking at the Velie website it looks as if the company started life building horse drawn vehicles. Did they design their own engines and transmissions?

Hi Peter

They did use their own engines.(Also in an aircraft) I am not sure about the transmissions. I have not found a lot of technical information.

Regards
Tom

As mentioned in a previous post, the oil pumps on the Velie were not very successful. I purchased a new high performance oil pump from a VW Beetle.
A new pump body was machined to accept the VW gears and the original end plate and drive gear used. A new control valve and seat was installed in the end plate. Oil pressure was at 40 Lbs using the hand crank with the spark plugs removed. The engine now has 50 Lbs when cold and idles at 25-30 Lbs when hot.
The new pump is on the left, the original in the centre and the VW housing on the right.
