Don't over-do it Rick. Mine was 50 years younger than your's when I took the photo.
Looking forward to more Now & Thens though.

Familiar parental holiday territory for me Rick, although my parents' budget only stretched to a back street B&B rather than the grand Station Hotel.
Peter, I have a suspicion that the mystery car thread had a car with that radiator some time ago. I haven't found it but wondered about a Wolseley?

The Wolseley in the photo is a 16/35 (unless I am mistaken). It was an important model featuring for the first time four wheel brakes, mono block four cylinder casting with detachable head. These were pretty significant improvements for the time but it was only produced in 1925 and 1926 and was about the last Wolseley made at Adderley Park before the original company was wound up; reappearing (after moving to Drews Lane) as Wolseley Motors 1927 ltd.
The 16/35 was replaced by the 16/45 - a much improved six cylinder car but one which somehow seemed to lack the charm of the earlier model.

I have not been able to find any photos of this beautiful building when it was a car showroom. Perhaps someone can come up with one. I think you would easily pay as much for a meal as it cost to buy a new Wolseley in the 'twenties. |

OK 5044 is earlier than 1925, Ray! If you look closely it does not have four wheel brakes, so not a 16hp ... I think it's a 1922 15hp - anyway, definitely a Wolseley. |

That's an amazing photo! The building should have been listed just on account of it.

And whoever allowed it to be demolished and that hideous monstrosity built in its place should have been hanged, drawn and quartered!

KCB was a café and petrol station to the North East of Wallingford. Oxfordshire
KCB stood for "Keep the Country Beautiful" The site was lost in the 1930's when the runway at RAF Benson was extended. This extension also cut through the recently built Benson by-pass.
Link to the story of the owners, their history and the extension to the runway http://www.davidhorsfield.org.uk/from-semaphore-to-satellite#ch11
The caravans are "Rollalong" and were sold from this site. |

Actually I think I prefer the 30s pastiche flats to Dutch gables.
