Blerry hell! Fascinated by the starting procedure. The bloke pulls it over one massive compression, stands back and says "go!", and the beast fires up. Any ideas about what happens after "go!" to make the monster start? Some external means of lighting up the mixture in one cylinder, perhaps?

I think the technique is to turn the engine over to just passed TDC so that the cylinder has a compressed charge, then switch the ignition on; with trembler coil ignition, switching on gives an initial spark, and hey presto... |

As a child a photo of that thing in the Dumpy Book of Veterans really fascinated me.
More that 50 years later it still does.
