I have an XJS cabriolet which was registered in 1989 - a year after the last cabrio was made? The VIN appears to show that it started life as a coupe, but it is every way a perfect example of a cabrio. Does anyone know whether Jag converted any coupes into cabrios after production ended and the convertible took over, or whether any other firm was still doing conversions as late as this?

According to Paul Skilleter the initial production involved sending coupe bodies sans roof and rear deck from Castle Bromwich to Park Street Metal at Exhall who removed the butresses, strengthen the floor pan. They then returned to CB for installing mechanicals and trim before being sent to Aston Martin Tickford at Bedworth for installation of the hood.
Perhaps this route was tried again after Browns Lane stopped making them.
