Hello all...

Anybody know anything about Star Sapphire brakes. I've established that the front calipers are the same as Rover P5b, but anybody know what the master cylinder and rear brakes are common to so I can source parts?

ta

SP2503 - caliper seal kit.
SP2003 - rear cylinder seal kit.
SP2107 - brake master cylinder seal kit.
SP2157 - servo seal kit.

...Penguin, are you a source of expertise on brake parts generally , or specifically Star Sapphire knowledge? I'm desperate for a Star expert? There is so little info out there on them? Do you know for example what I could use as a substitute remote servo? I'm preparing for the existing one being knackered...if it works I'll be well pleased, but I may as well start planning ahead Smile

Neither, but I do have several volumes of Girling reference and cross reference manuals dating back over about 65-odd years.

Which servo is in the car? You've probably only got a choice of Lockheed or Girling. The key info is the boost ratio. My 18/85 used to use a Girling Powerstop IIB, which is a complete and total s@d to try and rebuild to a reliable state. It now uses a Lockheed 3:1 one, which works very well.

You need to contact POWERTRACK BRAKES for real expert advice. They are exceedingly knowledgable, have lots of parts and can offer rebuild services if you need them.

.. good stuff..ta.

See , this is part of the problem, at the moment I don't even know if the servo is Girling or whatever....I can't see any markings on it.

Does the reference book cross reference the master cylinder, rear shoes . cylinders etc to other cars? Jags maybe

Thanks for the link to PowerTrack

I'm sure somebody told me they'd replaced the remote servo with somewthing from an MG? Sounds unlikely doesn't it....somethging of a much smaller car?

OK. Master cylinder is a Girling 7/8" and is shared with:

Riley Pathfinder
A/s Sapphire, Star Sapphire, Star limo
Maserati 101
Albion MRM

Girling 3/4" rear cylinder is shared with:

A/S Sapphire, Start Sapphire, 346
Daimler DF306-7, DF308-9, 400-1
Aston Martin DB MkIII
Jaguar MkVII, MkVIII
Riley Pathfinder,
Rover P4 - 80, 100; P5 3 litre

That's all I can find at the moment. Others may (will!) know more.

MGB remote servo gives a boost ratio of 1.9:1. I have no idea if that is correct for your car.

I am now much richer in information than I was two days ago...thank you very much.

PowerTrack seem to have the stuff I need. Nice to know however what other cars share parts. Interesting stuff...Maserati! Who'd of thunk it!

Basically, the braking system front and back, appears to be the same asRover P4 / 5
