..and its a nice earner for the garage guys, who take your old disks and get money back for them that they don't pass onto to you in the form of a service discount. I just have mine skimmed once in a blue moon locally for a tenner each! |

Old cars had tiny little pads that only lasted about 5000 miles if you drove normally whereas most modern cars to 35-45,000 miles and need disks as well when they're replaced, so not quite the same really.
I've got a Healey 3000 that wears it's pads rather quickly and also heats them up severely if I'm descending a long hill. |
