It is a pity there is not a LIKE button as I have been following this thread (and others) for a long time but it seems to be excessive to continually comment how impressed I am..

However this is a catchup for now and well done and keep posting Cool

I am with Phil on this. There are a few threads I have followed from Day 1, but don't always comment.

Thanks for your kind comments and encouragement.
More to come as and when.

If my posts help just one person, I'll be happy.

Its 30° in Carport so 'Out of bounds', BUT I need to do some welding Sad

Geoff - Spent the morning on the roof getting myself fried.

Hi Geoff, very entertaining and honest.
I was proud of myself, when the video prompted me, to spot you had missed the key. Smile
I would make that the last visit upto the roof if I were you (please)....remember Rod Hull? I want to see that car on the road!

Shows just how long it's been since I worked on a side-valve, thinking that the tappet heads are actuated by the cam lobes.
Engine block has cleaned up well, but I may run some descaler through the waterways.
Most definitely sleeved:

The manifold studs, only one being stepped, came out eventually after having to hammer the sides, thus bending them slightly, but they need replacing anyway, as I will do with the head studs.

Second attempt at removing the oil pump as the first was abysmal.

Geoff - My Facebook page shows both.

Peter,
I remember that sad day indeed.
For some reason I thought he was blown off of the roof due to it being windy.
No more roof antics for me with luck.

SpiggyTopes,
I can't help it.
My Dad was one of those 'annoying' people who could tackle any job and it would look as if an expert had done it, even when it was for the first time.
His model of the Sovereign of the Seas was only one such instant.
My Mom wasn't far behind him either, so the 'genes' have it.
What can I say?

Geoff - I am who I am.

Last week used the MSB unit for the first time, and man is it dusty.
Didn't seal up one section of the plastic sheeting properly that was isolating one half of the Carport, so some dust got through.
I will fix this before doing any more blasting or spray painting.

This method does, however, remove paint from areas nothing else can get into.

Attacked a lilac tree using chainsaw, then had to do some wood and felt replacement on Shed roof.

Geoff - Brain says "Can do" but body replies "No bl@@dy way"!

My Heath Robinson set-up of grinding the tappet heads flat, in lieu of a surface grinder.
High speed bench drilling machine fitted with a grinding disc then diamond cards for final finishing.

Tappet heads - Before:

Grinding by sliding the tappet under the grind stone, but by not more than just over 1/2 Ø:

End result:

Good contact with valve stems after a rub on the diamond card:

Cam followers look fine but will use marker pen to check contact areas during trial assembly of engine.

Time to use the TIG welder to repair body parts.

Geoff - If only I could do the same with my body parts!

Have just got my Clarke 151TE Turbo up and running that I bought years ago.
Had to remove the cover to re-seat all the spade terminals as the wire feed motor was dead.
Been practicing and now see why this 'Point-and-Squeeze' method is so popular.

Geoff - With luck will be able to start welding on the small body parts soon.

Have been using the Clarke 151TE MIG for the first time & can now appreciate why this method of welding has become the standard for car repairs.
The machine had been sitting in the Workshop for years unused due to treatment.
The wire feed motor was dead when I connected up and pulled the trigger, so you can imagine just how blue the air was due to my choice of words.
Told myself to relax, have a cuppa and think, which I duly did the outcome of which was to remove the machine's cover and check connections to find out if there is power going to that small motor.
Vacuumed/brushed all the cobwebs and dust away then got hold of my meter.
No power reaching the feed motor on pressing the trigger, so next on the list was to re-seat all those spade/multi-pin connectors and BINGO the motor burst into life and wire was fed down the tube.
Cover back on and then the inevitable learning curve, trying all the setting to see what happens.

Geoff - Why the blue blazes haven't I used the machine before now?!

Hello Gang,
As the Subject says, car wise.
Other half dumped a DOA Dyson Telescope in my lap, having procured it for a fiver at local car boot, with the words "You are a man, you should be able to fix it"
My response was "I have the three parts that confirms my gender, albeit the middle one not as vigorous as before", receiving that look only a female can give.
She then bu**ered of on her yearly 3-week jolly visiting family.
Took a while sorting out how to strip the machine, but eventually had it in parts only to find one carbon brush wasn't making contact with the commutator and that meant bending three tabs back in order to get the brush out.
As I pulled the brush clear of its tube it promptly broke in half with that loose bit crumbling in my fingers.
Never experienced this before.
Found a suitable replacement in my electric spares box and used the RSU to solder the lead on and then reinstall and power leads back.
Quick check with motor free and good as new.
Not bad for a fiver and a few hours work.
A well thought out design to make it easy to assemble BUT not for carbon brush replacement, so bin and buy a new one.

The heat and humidity has made the Carport nigh on impossible to work in, especially welding.
I did do quite a few practice beads before the heat 'stopped play' though.
Plenty to do in the Workshop to keep me occupied, machining backplates for smaller lathe chucks, made a rear tool post and lastly busy with backplates to mount chucks on the dividing head.

Geoff - With cooler weather I should be back welding this week.
