I've read about this group - Club Concorde - in a couple of different places today, they're pushing ahead with proposals to see a Concorde return to flight in the future, having secured a useful lump of funding apparently.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/luxury/travel/83904/concorde-flights-planned-to-resume-and-aircraft-proposed-for-display-in-london.html

I'd be amazed if it ever happened, would Airbus/RR ever come around to the idea and add their support I wonder????

Lots of speculation at the Southport Air Show yesterday but I can't see it happening; too many vested interests would prefer it not to fly again.

I've read something about this on another forum, opinion seems to be there that the last thing stopping Concorde flying again is lack of money, situation is similar to the Vulcan one, but much more so.

An article via BBC internet news. Refers to Concorde and the Vulcan

http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20150925-how-do-you-bring-an-aircraft-back-from-the-dead

My opinion. Attempting to put Concorde back in the air, may look like an exciting thing to do, especially to those of us who can remember it in service, or maybe saw the first flight or even flew on it. Realistically it likely won't happen and I don't think it should. I feel the same about the Vulcan and even the Space Shuttle.

Thousands even millions of £/$'s would be involved just to make one more flight and then what ? Even more money needed to repeat a flight and so on until age and lack of finance would eventually ground them.

Would it not be better to divert such funds into maintaining modern museums that showcase the history, or is it that there is far less excitement in funding museums. Less bling less money.

One day, the Lancaster and the Spitfire will make their last flight just as one day we will have to face the demise of a parent or favourite uncle. Not everything can go on for ever no matter how famous, exciting or loved these things are.

The Vulcan, Concorde and Space Shuttle are rare examples of what the technology of the time was able to create, better they should be preserved than fall from the sky and be lost to all.

One of the differences between the Vulcan and Concorde, apparently, is that the Vulcan was sold by the MoD with a massive load of spares, all of which were properly labelled and certified with life expiry dates and so on, where much of the Concorde spares stock was sold off as memorabilia, or for scrap, as there was never any intention of returning it to the air. All of them have had the hydraulic systems drained, so to even think about powering them up would need those to be properly assessed (which probably means just replacing the lot) and that's where the design authority needs to be around to offer technical guidance as to how those items are made. And that's just one part of a very complicated plane.

I'd like to see it going again, in fact we were talking about this in the pub last night. One issue, though, is that while the Vulcan can wow the crowds with aerobatic displays, Concorde wasn't really built for that kind of work.

One of the good things I read about the Vulcan recently is that it's going to end up in a position where it's hoped it will inspire youngsters to work on such things. Another comment suggested that the recent notice from the constabulary about not blocking the roads while wanting to see the last flight of the Vulcan is the antithesis of the spirit that made us pioneers in jet aircraft technology in the first place, and shows why it's largely other people that do these things now.

Agreed, there is a definite lack of "can do" spirit pervading our lives nowadays. For example, how the flyby of 558 over Runcorn bridge was cancelled just days before it was due to take place, because of fears of crowding in the area for a few minutes Rolling Eyes

There are several interesting photos of Concordes being built, in the following article

What a sad indictment of Britain in the 21stC that you even had to write that. Seems we could produce technology in the 60s that has only regressed because of the environment, cost, lack of vision or whatever. Would be fine if someone were to say yes but we have found a cure for cancer but seems to me that after an astonishingly rapid rate of discovery and advancement it has all slowed down these last 20 or so years. Sad really.

Probably because many people believe that the teleport and warp drive are imminent realities.
