Last year, I chanced one an old girder fork motorcycle on a scrap pile.

I thought you guys might me interested, but also this posting would serve as a record of the find.

I happened to be at an old farm, when I noticed a girderfork in a scrap pile. The fork was on the top, by itself. A big bakerlight knob with M on it told me it was off a Matchless.

but hang on a minuite, there was another, but on a frame, with an engine. and a wheelbarrow full of bits....

bingo, can you see it?

.

I managed to buy it, and a cache of bits in the barrow.

This is what I got. Turns out the rear wheel hub was not off it, and the gearbox was off a 1920's AJS, but you get the picture. It was a 1929 Calthorpe Ivory 350.

Too far gone for me. And I'm not really into motorcycles, it went to an enthusiast via e-bay. The beer vouchers went into my projects.

Excellent find, amazing what's out there. I was following a large scrap metal lorry a couple of weeks back, it was heading in the direction of the local yard. On the top was the chassis of, I think, an ancient farm trailer, or possibly a lorry, complete with painted on registration number on its crumbling tailboard and a couple of neat reflectors screwed on alongside. If I'd had time, I would have followed it to the yard for a quick look at what lay beneath the chassis.

Old farms can still turn up the gems eh!?

Theres loads of stuff out there to be saved. Just need people looking. I'll post a few more recent rescues if they are of any interest?

Wow I would have loved to get that up and running.
Bit would possibly kill it but I am sure it could be put back on the road with a few modern additions
