It would have come with a housing like this

Takes an oil impregnated element which are not available anywhere.

I fitted a K&N which works superbly and gives great filtration and allows the mixture to be tweeked nicely

Hi
Thanks for your fantastic reply, I did find a similar filter box to the black one you had, Sad we cant get new filters for them as i would like the original look and will be better in the winter, I recognise the k & n from my ford days !

This is a picture of the plate I made to mount the K&N to the carb, once it all fitted correctly I painted it and used some instant gasket between the filter base and plate.
The 4 bolts went through the plate and filter base and picked up the origional filter mounting fixings.

Hi Imperial21, just looking at the picture of your engine - what is the blue hosing for? I am in the process of restoring/repairing/replacing what's under the bonnet of mine and I don't have this - is it something to do with air intake?

The air filter box on my Super Minx is a metal cylinder with a short hose coming from it. I believe the hose is pointed in different directions depending on the current season (colder or warmer air).

Mine has an auto box so unsure of what knob it would have.

That's the origional type filter housing for the Solex carb.
It takes an oil impregnated filter sheet which are not available hence he taking mine off and fitting the K&N. I went for proper filtration and mixture set up over originality.
