Bit of a soggy old day again yesterday for a run out to the post office, but it needed a wash anyway Smile At least I got another "ooo I remember my dad having one of them" conversations with an elderly chap that parked next to me.

The Moggy was used today for another ride out to Sleap airfield.

This old garage is in Wem, so a quick photo was taken.

We then continued south to the airfield. It was quieter than on our last visit, although the resident Anson took to the air and returned while we were there, which was wonderful to see (and hear).

As it was Drive It Day, the Moggy was pressed into use a couple of times today, first for our foray to local car boot sales, later for a general run out and chinwag at a friends' old-car garage.

Back down to Sleap yesterday, for a nice brew and a little more aircraft spotting Smile

As mentioned in the other posting today, the local classic/vintage bicycle road run was a good opportunity to photo the Mog in suitably aged company.

And the day before at Oulton Park, the old girl gets around Smile

Apart from adjusting the fan belt, there's not been too much work required to it lately. Touch wood that continues ...

Down to Sleap again yesterday to watch a few more airfield movements, and sample their fine sausage butties. Once again the fan belt has slackened off a little, causing some slippage, so I think I'll look into a replacement belt. I think it may be a little narrow, and having slipped on a number of occasions has probably worn it away a little more.

Here with an old wartime building on the approach to Sleap, or what remains of the building anyway...

It's an interesting place, with a small museum of artefacts that's well worth having a nosey at. Sunday's seem to be busiest, understandable given how many people take lessons there.

Out and about in the Moggy the other day (a stormy and ominously dark afternoon), shown here parked up in town and raising the tone of the area immeasurably.

Oddly, just as I was taking this snap, a family walked by and told me that they too have a '52 Minor. There's still has the sidevalve engine in it, for which they have a Shorrock supercharger on the shelf and are looking for an Alta head.

Another outdoors-y shot from a few weeks ago, the Moggy has had a couple of runs out lately (followed by a thorough wash-down afterwards), and is now tucked up nice and cosy out of the weather.

The Moggy was due a run out, so a cross-country route to a friend's place in Shropshire was plotted on a map (remember them?), and a very pleasant journey along almost deserted back roads was undertaken.

Salted roads were avoided for the most part, the only downside being that in places the back lanes either had fairly large puddles, or as in the scene below, flooded sections. Although not obvious in this photo, the road was flooded as far as the distant bends, and the depth was significant. The car was due a clean anyway!

I noticed a spot of steam coming out of the radiator overflow pipe at journey's end, a check of the rad (which is the one it had when I bought it, after standing idle for years) revealed that only the centre part of the core was warm, the remaining 60% or so either side was stone cold. I've no idea how old the rad is, the core doesn't look brilliant to be honest, so I've ordered a re-cored replacement which will hopefully be here in the next 2-3 days or so.

There's a bit of back lane near here that's more often than not flooded 2-3 inches deep, and I often use it for removing salt from car underbodies.

For "Drive It Day" junior and I headed out for a spin in the Moggy, down to Sleap to watch a few circuits and bumps at the airfield, then back home, then off again to my folks to drop junior off there for a while. Quite a few miles covered, and a good test of the replacement radiator.

Dad exercised his Traveller during the day also

It was also pressed into service again today for a few local errands, got to keep these old things mobile!!!
