The earlier Triumph Roadsters used the 1776 cc OHV engine also used in the 1½litre Jaguars. Later Roadsters used the 2 litre TR2 engine.
The 1776 cc engine has really stupidly designed water manifolding and spares such as shell bearing are a bit thin on the ground.
The 2 litre engine is used in so many places that spares are no problem.
Fitting a BMC engine would certainly not be good for the car's value.

Seems to be a strange conversion: if you want easy spares, why go for the 1600 MGA engine instead of an MGB unit? And as Peter has pointed out, a TR2/3/4 engine would be just as practical, and more authentic ... |
