The steering wheel retention bolt on my Rover 9 is missing, and I cant find any trace of a bolt with the same thread....27/32-18tpi. No trace of taps or dies either. Dont have an imperial lead screw on my lathe, so I cant cut one.
If any body knows where one might be found I would appreciate it a lot! Looking locally for somebody who might make one also.
Column is tapped for 1.5", needs enough hex head to tighten down on a washer.

Hello John. I am going to ask a really stupid question.

Does this "missing bolt" pass through the steering wheel and into a threaded hole down the centre of the steering column ?. If so, how did you arrive at the diameter and TPI ? Without photos and not being that familiar with steering system of that era, I cannot visualise the technique you used..

The column tube has a taper on its top end, and a small key to locate the wheel. The wheel centre slips on the taper, with the top of the tube is maybe 1mm low inside the wheel centre. I measured the inside of the female thread in the tube as best I could and got 25/32 . Separately one other person with a 9 has advised me its 27/32 OD on the bolt, and another that a 13/16 spanner WONT go over the bolt thread, but 7/8 is loose, so 27/32 seems to be correct. Everybody agrees its 18 tpi.

Are you sure you have the T.P.I. right. I've had a look through some old charts and the only standard thread I can find with a 27/32 O.D. is half inch British Standard Pipe but that is 14 T.P.I. Of course the thread might be Rovers own and not a standard one

Problem solved. Local gent on ozclubbies turned up a threaded section within 24hrs of my post, and it arrived today - perfect fit! Verifies that it is 27/32x18tpi, so shame on all the sceptics.

OOPS, that would be a bad result, sorry I got righteous. i did get it wrong on the OD of the thread at first, but TPI was measured with a proper thread gauge, and verified by other owners.
