Mentioned elsewhere but I have just purchased a Volvo 123gt of 1968 vintage. Wasn't out looking for one of these, in fact had not even popped up on my radar until I was offered the car as a p/x for my vintage Vauxhall. I had admired a lovely Amazon estate owned by friends that I meet occasionally at steam rallies and asked them for some advise regarding the 123gt That and much other research determined that this car was likely to suit my needs.
First job will be to have a tow bar fitted Very Happy

Sounds like a good buy, there are a few Amazon owners in these parts (I'm an ex-owner). Any photos to hand?

An acquaintance of mine years ago who welded up my first Amazon (bought for £50), then later crashed my green 122S after he bought it from me, had an off-white 123GT. It was quite a rare machine iirc even in the early 1990s. Are their engines much more tuned than a comparably-aged 122S?

Becoming associated with the old girl, really surprised at just how modern the drive feels. Smooth and quick but at same time lovely feeling of 'being in touch', unlike modern stuff.
Rick, apparently the engine offers up 115 horses so pushes the car along just nicely. Twin S.U. carbs, higher lift cam and high compression pistons. I am told the engine is well able to be tuned to 140 horses and still be reliable, I,m happy as is. Very Happy

Congratulations with your GT Smile

Nice to hear from another Amazon owner.

I remember when these were used as everyday cars.

Took care of one at the garage I had back then, it was White.

Thank you, managed to break the ignition key in the barrel, understand this is a very common fault. New barrel fitted and this week a starter button will be fitted, no more broken keys!
Coming from cars of the 1920's I am very happy to be able to buy any parts required for the car wether that's body or mechanical. And so inexpensive, brilliant. To be able to walk into a Volvo dealership and buy an oil filter for a nigh 50 year old car is remarkable.

Yes this is a common fault Rolling Eyes are you going to hide the starter button ? I am personally not a fan of drilling the original dash.

I purchased a starter button kit from fleabay with the intention of fitting the button into the cigarette lighter socket. However, my lad has given me a micro button which I will use, thinking about where to fit it, perhaps where the dash panel folds under out of sight.

The car has all it gt bits and bobs, fortunately nothing to buy for it regards that. Also it came with a great history log and the original buff log book confirming its gt status.
Looking forward to my first season with the car.
