Steve,
got about 30 ohms
That looks good, what I would expect. I know I'm stating the obvious but you have checked the F1/F2 fuse?? I would be looking at the main switch I think. Whatever goes on in there. I'll have a read up online and see if I can be of any further help.

Steve,

Do you know/can you look at where the 3rd brush is located. If it is close to the brush that goes to the D terminal then we should be earthing the F terminal to get max output. We may have sold you a pup with the previous advice. Rolling Eyes Have a look and get back.

Steve,

Excellent, we're making progress then Laughing Check what voltage you are getting just below 2000rpm. All we need is about 12.5 volts which hopefully would be about 1000-1250rpm. As I said previously the cut-out cut-in may need adjusting. Looking at your picture I can't see an obvious adjustment. You could try closing up the air gap by bending the tang on top of the cut-out armature to about 25 thou. If there is a coil spring pulling on the armature then loosening the hook the spring atttaches to will lower the Cut-in point. If it's a blade spring then bend where the blade rests on.

I know that this isn't the original Dynamo but how do the pulleys compare. Is the original perhaps a smaller diameter?

I'm not sure how long it will last but at least i know what the problem is.
Not sure how or when the wire snapped off

Steve,

I'm glad that you have found the problem. I would suggest you shorten the new wire or at least coat the wire with some sort of adhesive to counter the centrifugal forces.
