Simple minds can cope with simple things.
Photo upload courtesy of Imgur, not to be used by the super intelligent, it is reserved for polite idiots |

This was the worst ice storm New Brunswick had ever experienced. Most of the Province was without power, some for several weeks. We were a week before the trees, shown here, sprung back enough to get down the drive. Once the snow left, April, it took over a week to cut off broken branches and clear up. |

This piss taking attitude is not helpful. If I can't post pics here then I won't bother. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

In an attempt to be constructive, a move to another free hosting site is one possibility but this doesn't necessarily give a good answer for repairing past forum threads and leaves us open to a repeat performance in the future.
I did try using imgur to repair this thread:
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7917
but whilst imgur is easy and quick to use it completely replaces the image addresses which to my simple mind suggests it would be less than simple to automate the updating of old threads and I don't think many forum members would be prepared to manually edit all their contributions.
Perhaps more computer savvy members will see it differently.
If we place any value on old threads I think that we must create an automated replacement of Photobucket image addresses either to another free host or to a paid for forum host.

Re Peter Scott's idea of a system that would auto move photos. Doesn't the fact that we no longer have access to the photos on their server make that impossible. Your restored thread must have taken a while and suggests you have a good photo index system of your own ? What about people who may have had computer problems and actually lost the original images from their drive ?
I don't have the technical expertise to even imagine how to fix this, other than go back to each post but how does one know what photo is missing.
Could we be witnessing the end of free photo hosting ?
I have images on Google Drive and Microsoft but from what I read on the "net and even fumbling around myself it doesn't look as if their system allow upload to the like of OCC. No doubt they could if they wanted.
Our business website server allows me to copy and paste a photo to OCC, but using their service is a violation of their terms of service.
I have looked at Google postings about the problem as experienced by OCC but as yet I don't see any "magic stick" solution. |

Not so. You can access your photos library in Photobucket and you can download all your photos with a single command. I have just done this. Initially I thought that you had to download each image individually but MikeEdwards correctly pointed out that you can have all.

I did find that the process was not responding initially but on trying at a different time of day it started to work and even sends you an email telling when the download is complete.

Thanks for the info, on downloading, will look into it when back home. Tried via hotel room Wi-Fi, but it is quicker to send a postcard. |

I also found it was quite slow, but then I guess their servers are quite busy at the moment, with people downloading and deleting accounts. The email is handy - I got into a routine of starting a download and then not waiting for the screen, exiting and starting another one. I must get back on to it.
Now, would it have killed them to name the zip files as something meaningful, maybe your account name followed by the album name, instead of the pseudo-random string of characters they actually use? |

Their file names do include the file name that you used when you sent the file to them.
