Hi all,
My car (1935 Armstrong Siddeley) had a 'sliding head' sliding roof/sunroof. All I have of the sliding section though is the latching handle and a couple of toggles. Would anyone have any hardware from a 1930's Weathershield brand roof that might help me to reconstruct the roof for my car?

Regards,
Paul.

Hi Paul,

I note the underwhelming response to your post about the sliding sunroof which of course occurs if that one person who can help doesn't happen to read the post.

Anyway, you may wish to try an ad (which may be free I'm not sure) in The Automobile magazine. You would be appealing to many more prewar types, this is an excellent forum but I think it would be true to say that the greater proportion of members are post war owners and enthusiasts.

Also, presumably an Armstrong Siddeley club or register may be able to help.

Good luck

Tim

The other issue is that, while there are lots of pre-war car owners in these parts (some active, others not), without dismantling their car's rooflining, actually being able to describe the sliding roof's construction might be tricky. So you need someone with a stripped project car to hand, which narrows the options somewhat.

I think there'd be mileage in hunting down pre-war copies of magazines such as Practical Motorist, as overhauling such roof assemblies would be just the kind of thing they'd cover.
