I know some one who owned an old American car with trunnion front suspension, similar to a Marina. It failed the MOT and he filled the trunnions with braze and re tapped them and it passed.

Is changing the Easidrive badge on a Hillman Minx for De Luxe one then putting it through the sales, a bodge or dishonest?

The story came from an old style car dealer. He took the Minx in part ex for a Renault Fregate he couldn't get rid of. He paid the next to nothing for the Minx because of the gearbox. The auction he sold it at was one of those where they just drove the car through. I don't know how the punter missed the transmission, but the dealer made money on it.

He also had a Sunbeam Rapier with a knocked out big end, the shells had spun and damaged the con rod. The answer was polish the crank in situ fit a new pair of shells. Because the shells were loose in the rod an old style springy razor blade behind the shells took up the clearance. It lasted long enough to go through the auction.

How about Fullers Earth in the bell housing to stop an oily clutch slipping

Ford Transits with the Dual mass flywheel are notorius for going through starter motors but if you drill a hole in the gearbox bell housing it lets the dust out.
