I often try to let on whenever I see an oldie driving the other way, and I'm at the wheel of something similarly aged/decrepid. Only the other day, a gent in a WW2 Jeep (towing a horsebox!!) waved, as we passed in the opposite direction in little Dodge.

Yes, we tend to get waved at or beeped at by other classic owners when out and about. My kids especially like waving at other classic owners.

They definitely do if I'm in my Healey 3000. I have to allow an extra half an hour for every journey because everybody wants to talk about it or has a story to tell. 4x4s or some of them, are terrifying to me too. They just charge at you.

I prefer a friendly wave to a headlamp flash as when I reach for the light switch to return the greeting I sometimes turn the wipers on and look a complete ****!

Yes I am pleased to say with one exception - vintage and veteran Rolls Royce drivers.
There's a dealership specialising in vintage Rolls Royce and Bentley 16 miles or so away and new owners driving through the village on their way home with their purchases rarely acknowledge us lesser mortals!

Still, I suppose if you can afford to buy vintage Rolls Royce you have earned the right to feel superior. Smile

Exchange waves with most classic car owners. Some don't wave, out of those you get the ones that only wave to other people in their 'scene' (VWs etc), owners of expensive cars who look down their nose at a mere Austin, oh and the owners who are so doddery they don't see another old crock coming the other way!

A gent in his Stag flashed his lights today, as we returned home from Oulton Park in the Moggy. Top chap.

In the Moggy again this morning, a bloke in an Allegro VdP waved (I think he may have been heading to Cholmodeley Castle show).

Yes, almost without exception there's a friendly wave to be exchanged with other old car users. No matter which one of the fleet I'm using.

yes get waves and flagged down for a chat. But better than that was when I broke down and couple with children stopped in their modernish car to ask if I was ok and turned out they had a classic car and the same occasion a chap in a morgan also stopped to offer help.

I always wave but I find of all makes and eras, MGB owners are the least responsive.

We have always waved at anything old (which includes ourselves these days!) Even though some don't wave back, including the AA man. I still get just as excited seeing a Bantam as a Bentley.
