The degree of electronic miniaturization could not be imagined back in the day

Interesting.

My Father in law worked as a Technician at the BBC starting in the early 60's. He worked on a lot of OB's right up until he retired 10 years or so back.

What was in the van was basically the same as the studio equipment described here: www.nostalgiatech.co.uk/Emitron.htm

Also of interest, there used to be a chap near us in Shepton Mallet who used to own a couple of 60's Bedford BBC OB lorries. They were outside his place for years just deteriorating.

So long ago, and maybe the memory is flawed, but my folks bought a T.V. in about 1947. I well remember watching the test programme that came on in the afternoons. There was a scene from a play, a fire engine complete with bailey ladder racing to a building fire, and I am sure that there was a short scene of an O.B. van among other things.

T.V was only broadcast in the afternoons and evening and there was only one channel. I enjoyed the antics of Muffin the Mule, and remember watching a Gorge Formby film that I later identified as 'No Limit'

We left England in November 1949, and I had my fifth birthday at sea on the way to Australia.
