INTRODUCING THE NEW AUTOCLASSICS MARKETPLACE.

• New partnership with AutoClassics.com announced
• Opportunity for dealers and restorers to engage with huge Silverstone Classic crowds
• In depth editorial support for world’s biggest classic motor racing festival

The organisers of the Silverstone Classic are delighted to announce that AutoClassics.com has been appointed as the event’s Official Online Marketplace Partner – an exciting appointment which will add yet another valuable new dimension to the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.

AutoClassics.com is the new global marketplace and information base for collector cars of all ages, from turn-of-the-century pioneers to the latest supercars. The online platform provides free to list advertising as well as high-quality news, features and market analysis making it the perfect partner to the Silverstone Classic – an annual event that attracts more than 100,000 car loving visitors.

Now, to bring AutoClassics to life, this summer’s three-day extravaganza will debut the ‘AutoClassics Marketplace’.

Appropriately, the ‘AutoClassics Marketplace’ will be located in the busy infield area adjoining the multitude of car club displays where more than 10,000 privately-owned classics are showcased over the weekend.

This new initiative will give independent classic car dealers and restorers a wonderful opportunity to exhibit their specialist skills and standout models from their showroom collections.

“Autoclassics.com are delighted to be the Marketplace Partner at the Silverstone Classic this year,” enthused Ben Caspary, Partnership Director at AutoClassics. “As Silverstone Classic draws in such a diversity of crowds and provides something for everyone within the classic car community, it meant it was a perfect partnership for us at Autoclassics.com.

“Autoclassics are dedicated to providing the most extensive range of classic and historic cars for sale coupled with in depth coverage across news, events, racing and ownership to fuel our users. Being part of the Motorsport Network, and the synergies with Silverstone Classic, enables us to collectively share the passion amongst all our brands with the fans.”

Those sentiments were echoed by Event Director, Nick Wigley. He said: “The advent of the new AutoClassics Marketplace will provide our visitors not only with yet another appealing attraction but also a terrific chance for them to join the amazing classic car movement should they be so inspired… which it’s hard not to be at Silverstone Classic!”

A bit of hyperbole in there somewhere. "Now entering its 28th season" might have been correct - if there hadn't been a substantial gap between Coy's sponsorship and the new event. And one should remember that Christie's sponsored it at the beginning. They were the best what with the pre-war races as well. I miss those.

LEGENDS OF MODERN F1 COMPLETE 70th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS

• 100 Grand Prix cars to honour 70 years of Silverstone Grands Prix
• Icons as raced by Senna, Button and Hill in recent F1 history
• High-speed Formula One track demos at Silverstone Classic
• All tickets must be purchased in advance

Grand Prix cars from all seven decades of Silverstone’s remarkable history will be celebrating the circuit’s landmark 70th anniversary at next month’s Silverstone Classic (20-22 July) with news that a very special Legends of Modern Formula One showcase has been added to the sparkling birthday party bill.

As already confirmed, an evocative parade of ERAs, Maseratis and Talbots from the very first Silverstone International Grand Prix back in 1948 will be joined by thrilling retro races packed with stunning F1 icons from the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties.

Now, completing the anniversary celebrations, Legends of Modern Formula One will feature a great selection of significant F1 cars from the following three decades. These include turbo-, V8- and V10-engined machines as raced in period by world champions such as Ayrton Senna, Jenson Button and Damon Hill.

The all-embracing collection ranges from a Toleman-Hart TG184 dating back to 1984, when a young Senna and Johnny Cecotto were the team’s drivers, to a Ferrari-powered Sauber C30 in which both Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez scored world championship points during the 2011 F1 season. A number of equally impressive Grand Prix cars from BAR, Jordan and Lotus are also included.

This eye-catching gathering will not only be displayed in the National Paddock throughout the three-day festival but will also be revving up for dramatic high-speed track demos on Friday and Saturday, thus giving reminiscing visitors a wonderful chance to see – and emotively hear – these great cars back in action.

“The addition of Legends of Modern Formula One ensures all seven decades of Grand Prix racing are well represented in our celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of Silverstone’s very first Grand Prix in 1948,” said a delighted Event Director, Nick Wigley. “In total, we will have close to 100 Grand Prix cars at this year’s Classic – a very fitting tribute to Silverstone’s remarkable 70-year milestone.”

STAR-STUDDED LINE-UP FOR 60th ANNIVERSAY OF THE UK’S FAVOURITE RACE SERIES.

• The fast and famous join BTCC celebrations at the Silverstone Classic
• Reigning champion Ash Sutton tops all-star cast on Tin Top Sunday
• 150+ great cars set to honour six decades of epic bumper-bashing action
• Party-goers include touring car legends: Allam, Cleland, Fitzpatrick, Harvey, Huff, Plato, Rydell, Soper and Tordoff
• All tickets must be purchased in advance
• Media accreditation closes at midnight on Tuesday 17 July

As befits a brilliant birthday bash, the MSA British Touring Car Championship’s 60th anniversary celebrations at next weekend’s Silverstone Classic (20-22 July) will be encrusted with diamonds.

Never before has there been such a spectacular and star-studded line-up of legendary drivers and iconic cars – all highlighting the on-going success of the country’s premier motor racing series on Tin Top Sunday at the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.

Honouring the magical milestone, the packed programme on Tin Top Sunday features no fewer than four evocative touring car grids. These will star more than 150 cars that either have actually raced in the BTCC or that accurately represent those that have wowed massive television and trackside audiences over the last six decades.

What’s more, the roster of famous touring car drivers honouring the magical milestone includes no fewer than six BTCC champions: John Fitzpatrick (1966), John Cleland (1989 and 1995), Tim Harvey (1992), Rickard Rydell (1998), Jason Plato (2001 and 2010) and Ash Sutton (2017) – the current title holder fulfilling a childhood dream racing in the JET Super Touring Car Trophy races at the largest retro racing extravaganza on Earth.

“I’ve never been involved in the Silverstone Classic, but I know it’s a great event and I’m excited about competing there for the first time,” said the reigning BTCC champion. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and getting behind the wheel of a Super Tourer is obviously a fantastic opportunity, so I’m really grateful to be given this wonderful opportunity to be part of something so special.”

“Like many people, I grew up watching touring cars in that era and that obviously had a big influence on me,” continued Sutton. “The manufacturers involved and the money that was being spent back then meant these were highly engineered cars, so I can’t wait to see what the boys had to play with back in the 90s.”

Sutton will be making his Silverstone Classic debut behind the wheel of a 1996 Honda Accord and he will be competing against two former champions. Super Swede, Rydell is returning to the racetrack in his title winning Volvo S40 exactly 20 years after taking the coveted crown in 1998 while the ever popular John Cleland – a boyhood hero of Sutton’s – is still racing the Vauxhall Vectra he first campaigned in 1997.

Harvey is another title winner to be reliving history: he’s contesting the Historic Touring Car Challenge in one of the V8-propelled Rover SD1 Vitesses in which he first made his name back in the late eighties.

Meanwhile Fitzpatrick, the oldest living BTCC champion, and Plato, the series’ most victorious driver with 98 victories, will be fronting a stellar Diamond Jubilee BTCC Anniversary Parade on Tin Top Sunday.

Fittingly, 60 standout saloon and touring cars are being assembled for the glittering birthday cavalcade. This will take place on the full Silverstone Grand Prix circuit and include both last year’s title winning Adrian Flux supported Subaru Levorg and an Austin Westminster as raced by the late Jack Sears to the inaugural crown in 1958.

Other notable cars joining the parade include Doc Shepherd’s title winning Austin A40 from 1960, Graham Hill’s race winning Jaguar Mk2 (complete with its famous BUY 12 number plate) from 1962, Frank Gardner’s title winning Ford Escort from 1968 and the whacky Volvo 850 Estate which will be reunited with its original driver – Rickard Rydell – specially for the occasion.

Adding even further to the celebrations, a large number of past and present BTCC aces also will be in action at the Silverstone Classic. These include Jeff Allam (racing a Ford Capri), Ian Flux (racing a Mazda 323F), Jason Hughes (racing his period MG ZS), Rob Huff (racing a Lotus Cortina), Karl Jones (racing his period Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500), Steve Soper (racing a Lotus Cortina), Sam Tordoff (racing a Porsche 356 and an Austin Healey), Patrick Watts (racing a Ford Capri and Rejo Mk3) and Nick Whale (racing a BMW M3).

With so many BTCC stars attending the 60th anniversary birthday party, a special photo call will take place in the International Paddock immediately after the second Super Touring showdown at 3.45pm on Tin Top Sunday. All drivers who have raced in the BTCC are invited to muster and the opportunity will provide touring car fans of all ages with a wonderful chance to meet their heroes.

Visitors are reminded that tickets for the Silverstone Classic must be purchased in advance and are available until midnight on Thursday 19 July. Adult admission is priced from just £45 and, once again, all tickets will provide access to both Silverstone racing paddocks, open trackside grandstands, live music concerts on the Friday and Saturday evenings, air shows, funfair rides and the vast majority of the family entertainment on offer.
