Now that Photobucket has got very expensive, could the powers that be tell us how to include photographs using other methods?

Cheers, Tony

Why do we expect things on the Internet to be free? Come on chaps, the Internet is great but it needs to be funded.

On my (external) hard disc I have about 25,000 photos, many of which were on Photobucket. I didn't realize just how clunky Photobucket was until I was forced to open a Flickr account this year. I can open a new folder for a series of photos and copy the lot across during lunch or dinner, far easier than I ever could with Photobucket. The most I have copied from my hard disk is 80 at a go, and whereas I had to choose in the past I can just click on the lot. Moreover, the editing facilities with Flickr are far easier to use and while not up to Paint Shop Pro are as much as most people would need. And with 2TB (not MB) of free space you'll never need more.

I don't think a modest charge would be a problem in many instances. The problem is the trickery of letting you use something for free then applying a ripoff fee for which most reasonable people would expect to get something tangible. It's just profiteering, much the same as the way petrol prices climb steeply within a few hours when the price of crude oil goes up but fall slowly if at all when crude becomes cheap again.

Plus the implied threat in all their emails that you will lose all you photos if you don't pay up.
Firstly; my photos are still there.
Secondly; I haven't deleted them from my hard drive or back-up disc. Who would?
I even still have the hard copies of the pre-digital photos.

I have for years supported that we should pay for what we consume on the Internet, otherwise we end up with situations like the current, where the likes of Photobucket either goes bust or tries to keep going, with different charging models. Some providers of servicies may be able to continue to offer services free based on continuing revenues generated from advertising and that great, but ask yourselves would you be happy if you're Salery was funded this way?

So, we'll all drift over to Flickr or Imgur or one of the other free services, relax and forget that Photobuckets great attempt to break every forum on the internet has passed. Five years from now, when these other service providers decide to follow suit, we'll be going through all this again.

There are two long term solutions which work. One is that your forum provider offers adequate storage to allow it to it to host its own pictures. Cost can become an issue.... Or, you take responsibility, get yourself a domain, some server space and host your own pictures at a much lower cost. Teenagers are very helpful at this point, and will generally work for beer money. Very Happy

What I can't work out is why Photobucket have left me alone, perhaps it's because I have rented a little space on the entry level storage of £20ish for 2 or 3 years now.

Question is, is this first level 20Gig space no longer available ?

Hi
If Google can exist on advertising, just like the Metrro and other free papers, without totally overloading our computers then so could PB, but instead they chose a platform which carried so much advertising that people deployed ad blockers in defence.

Even MS make no charge for my Outlook services. The only money I know they got from me is whatever licence was paid by my computer maker or retailer.
That is, unless they get a rake off from Broadband suppliers.[/u]

I agree and I do not find either Google or MS ads too intrusive but PhotoB's were really irritating.

I am certainly not paying and I am ignoring the daily emails for a special deal price

I have my own business web site and host some of my pictures for forums and the like on it.
I suppose with the price of web hosting now very low from some companies its worth doing as a private thing. At least you don't have to worry about all your pictures vanishing or being held to ransom to keep them (said he hopefully).
