I agree and I do not find either Google or MS ads too intrusive but PhotoB's were really irritating.

I am certainly not paying and I am ignoring the daily emails for a special deal price

They are very different business models; MS is funded by licencing either on one of its may commercial schemes or for private users either the OEM licence that came with the PC or subscription like 365.

Google can command premium rates for advertising given the dominance it has, it also generates "click" revenues and on top of that collates browsing habits that can also be sold on.

PB is effectively offering storage with a limit but with unlimited access to the photo's stored. For most of the time their servers are accessed, we don't even realise PB is involved..its a picture that appears on a forum or in an online catalogue, imagine how irritating it would be if we got an advert every time we looked at a picture, in Googles model PB would collect revenue from the site where the picture appeared

Quite simply the advertising revenues simply can't fund the PB storage infrastructure and network cost...its a flawed business model thats become a victim of its own success, and there is a distinct lack of organisations wanting to take PB customers off them, because the model is flawed.

The one thing thats worse than PB's flawed bushiness model is the way it tried to fix it! the exorbitant amount, together with the associated blackmail, beggared belief. I think most people would accept paying something, but its got to be proportional to use and comparable to market rate that other cloud providers offer.
