I've spotted a Singer Gazelle in a tumbledown small shed covered in brambles. Been there as long as I've known. (No prefix, no suffix).
Sorry but I cannot figure out either Frickr or t'other one to offer snaps.
If anyone is intersetd, email me and I'll send the snaps to you.
Cheers, Tony. _________________ It may work in practice, but not necessarily in theory! |

Saw one of these on the road in Cwmbran yesterday. It looked tiny, only the size of a new mini. I used to think they were big, posh cars! |

We had one as a project a few years back, it was 1963 and two tone blue/white. The insides on the these are lovely in my opinion. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Yes, norms have changed. The Gazelle is a mid sized family car. Unfortunately we appear to have imported some of the less desirable norms from across the pond.
When people were working physically hard all day out on the range then food portions that are the norm over there were probably appropriate. Most of these occupations have now become mechanised but food portions have remained at least twice as large as the average person requires. Unfortunately a significant proportion of the population over there (and over here) have lost control and require great fat vehicles like the big fat "Minis".
Sadly the Astra will no longer be made at Ellesmere Port because the demand has dropped in favour of ridiculous outsized vehicles with huge frontal areas and poor fuel economy that is the last thing this world needs.
Of course folk in normal sized cars now find that almost every vehicle ahead of them presents the forward view like the backside of a van so everyone now "needs" bigger and bigger cars for a better view.

Hi
BMW are now advertising "Our Biggest Mini EVER" as if it is a good thing to do.

Mind you size increases are nothing new.

Cars get fatter & fatter, yet the interiors don't give any more room! Too much gucci padding for my liking.
I realised how far down we had fallen, when I spotted Vauxhall Corsas with THREE headrests across the back seats.! FFS, what was THAT all about??
Singer Gazellies are the same size as Hillman Minxes..... |

The Gazelle of the early sixties, before Rootes got mad and simplified/cheapened things too much (angular styling for the rear window, simpler overriders) is one of the prettiest small 4 door saloons ever I think. Such a happy, willing car.

I much prefer the Gazelle to the Minx, the front end styling is a lot prettier. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

A bit of apples and pears really as the Rapier is a two-door. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

The Sunbeam Rapier was quite a car in it's day. I remember my Dad being enthusiastic about one at auction but was out bid. In the end he acquired a white Ford Corsair 1500GT (also a 2 door) which was probably a better car. I don't think a Singer Gazelle, nice as it might have been, would have been a match for either of them. |

I had a '61 Rapier IIIA convertible back on 1970. It was a blast to drive, and being only twenty at the time it went "quite fast", if you know what I mean.
In fact it was such a nice motor, I owned it twice! |

With the hood folded away the fins on the rear wings seemed to be more pronounced. It looked as if it could fly! |
