|
|
I was randomly looking through some things on my Ebay account and I thought I'd have a look at my feedback.
Looking at the last 20 items I have purchased and of note I always pay immediately with PayPal and leave feedback when the items are received, I have only been left 2 feedbacks from sellers!?!
I recall at one time it was considered important to have good feedback, now no one seems to be bothered.
Do any of you check your feedback? _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I used to check my feedback, but it just tends to be the same old stuff, lots of exclamation marks or plus signs, so it's meaningless. "Paid promptly A++++++" kind of stuff.
That said, if I'm leaving feedback, it tends to be the same - "as described, despatched promptly, happy." I don't buy enough to have had any trouble worth remarking on.
I often forget to leave feedback, only doing so when I happen to sign in next and notice it telling me I have items I haven't done yet. I'm sure it used to email to say "you haven't left feedback". I do get emails asking me to review something I bought, but I don't bother. What kind of a review does anyone need on a breather hose? Did it fit? Well, obviously, or I'd have sent it back. And by the time you've figured out it only lasts three weeks, it's too late to amend feedback or review. |

I have never sold anything on ebay. I always sell on Gumtree. When I buy through ebay I am amused by being told that I will receive a good feedback. What stupidity! If my money had not be received by the seller, I would not have been sent the goods!

Its weird being the same age as old people.
You are either part of the problem or part of the solution |

I recently purchased a vintage tail light lens on Ebay and went to leave feedback as I would normally do but couldn't find a "feedback" box. I had to search and eventually was able to leave feedback of a kind but Ebay has definitely changed the process. I won't bother in future. |

I agree with Ray that you actively have to search to leave feedback. But usually I do this because when buying something I always check the sellers feedback score. If this shows a good score then I would be more inclined to buy from the seller.
Most of the time the feedback I leave is very generic positive because that just is what it is. I would hesitate to leave negative feedback, would only do that if the seller is someone who does not want to deal with problems. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

You can find the feedback section under "order details". |

Many of the "improvements" in eBay can be described in the same way.
My biggest problem with it now is the automated listings for junk that clutter up the proper search results. I have a search for "Firenza" from time to time, but there's page after page of stuff like illuminated washer jets (separate listing for each colour, of course) and utter junk. Top listing under the search this morning is for a U-shaped pillow ("Fits: Firenza" when it should say "Fits: anyone with a neck) followed by some blade fuses which definitely don't fit a seventies Vauxhall.
If only there were a "exclude automatic and bulk listings" tick box. |

you can manage the search term by not allowing specific items, like
firenza -bulb -washer -pillow
But for any new bulk rubbish thing you have to change the search. Which I do because I am as fed up as you _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

In my small circle of friends with classics, we are generally not buying much on ebay anymore. I find some of it so tedious now, my usual search for 'hillman' or 'commer' often results in pages of non relevant new items from Asia.
I still tend to look but just don't buy that much. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Bought a kitchen knife block on Ebay - well, I thought I did - only to be told they wouldn't post to my address, so I didn't pay. I have been pursued by Ebay for payment of non-existent goods, and after much kerfuffle have had the black mark redacted. |

Searches can be refined with the addition of filters in a bracket; my interest is pre war Morris, a simple search just using the word "Morris" will return all the post war stuff so my search for pre war stuff is:
"Morris -(1000, mini, marina, Ital, j4, 1100,1300, minor, 1800,2200, princess)"
any term in the bracket is removed from the search (the - sign before the bracket is key), this search is slightly flawed as it removes the pre war minor!
or if I just want to search for Morris is 10/6 stuff, I'd use (note no - sign):
"Morris (ten six, 10/6, 10 6)"
Searches can be saved, with the option to recieve email alerts when new items are listed
