Peter's entry in the OCC quiz for the Gilbern GT, got me wondering about parts from one car, that featured on other car(s) - perhaps within the same group.

So, the A40 Farina rear lamp unit ...

Which also found its way onto the Gilbern GT and late examples of the Wolseley 1500.

What other examples of parts-crossover spring to mind?

The number plate illumination lamps on my Lancia are also fitted to ...

Ferrari 212s and 340s Shocked

The good news is that that means they are still available; the bad news is that they are over £2,000 apiece!

Browsing a recent copy of Octane I was surprised to see that in the Aston Martin Lagonda (the wedge-shaped one), the indicator
and wiper stalks are identical to those found in the later Vauxhall Viva HC.

I'm not entirely sure whose bathroom the carpet mats are sourced from.

There's lot of Viva HC stuff on other cars - Jensen-Healey used the front and rear suspension and indicators, Panther used most of the running gear for the Lima, and even shoe-horned the seven-dial dash module into their car.

Delving further the thermostat is the same as several MGs (hurrah! cheap plentiful bits) and Aston Martin (hmm) and interestingly my modern Audi TT comes up with the same QTH102 on cross-reference. Way easier to change on the Vauxhall, though.

Were also fitted to the Fordson E27N tractors ...

What a ghastly dashboard! My microwave looks better than that.

I think I mentioned this several years ago - E-types, Rover 2000's & VW micro-buses all use the same wheel bearings.

Didn't Marina door handles find other homes, too?

Are these BL (Marina/Allegro?) door handles?

I think Citroen CX mirrors were used on the XJ220, and there are many cars that use Citroen mirrors including Aston Martin.

That Lagonda steering wheel looks very Citroen-esque.

At one time, it seems Lucas [Prince of Darkness] got a load of electrical items from PAL [Czechoslovakia]....discovered when looking for things like radiator fans, etc....amazed to find many BL cars had the same items fitted.....as Skoda Estelles.

At one time, someone produced a website which was slowly cross-referencing what more commonplace items could be found on which vehicles....useful if wishing to avoid paying a premium for a name?

I've been doing that for my car - either to avoid paying a premium, or often just to be able to find it. I've been trying to gather a list of part numbers from various manufacturers of the same thing, handy for those times when you see a box of unlabelled stuff in an autojumble but the seller has no application lists.

Reliant Regal Mk6, Armstrong Siddeley Star Saphire, Mini Pickup and Rover P4 used the same Lucas rear Tail/Indicator lamp. The front side lights and indicators and numberplate lights also Lucas were used on numerous cars. The smaller car makers often used stock Lucas/Wipac/Butlers lights

Practical Classic produced a booklet of interchangeable parts. For example, the 924 Porsche was under the skin a VW, so changing the brakes and pads cost one third of the price. The engine was I believe from a VW van too.

These door handles,I believe, are from the Marina parts bin. I have owned both cars and thought it a bit odd at the time. Incidentally, they were not exactly nice to use.
