Hi. I am new to the forum so I apologise if this is not in the right place.

I have been restoring a 1934 Jowett for around 3 years and it is now mechanically complete, although there is still a lot of work to do on the interior.

The main reason for this post is to see if anyone can identify the wings in the photos. These came with the car, but turned out to be the wrong ones and as far as I know are not from any Jowett model.

Any help greatly appreciated as I don't want to scrap something old that might be useful to someone.

Hi Jules,

Welcome to the forum.

The swage along the side faces is a very distinctive feature but I can't think of a British 1930s car that had that feature.

Sorry for the negative response.

Peter

Hi Peter

Thanks for the reply & observation.

Although the wings came with the car, I don't know that they are from the 1930s. They may even be from a van or other vehicle.

Not sure either, I had a look around at various Jowetts and drifted into Singers too (eg the Bantam), but as yet no joy. Our resident Jowetteer will hopefully land on this thread with his opinion too.

Welcome to the forum!

Hello Julian. Good to hear from another car restorer. THOSE WINGS!!! You have set the cat among the pigeons there. They have a very distinctive swage which has got us all scratching our heads but I have no doubt someone will fathom it out. Whatever you do keep hold of them they are probably worth good money to someone!

Apart from the swages another slightly unusual feature is the forward positioning of the side lamps. Most cars of that period had the side lamps on the apex of the wings but the holes in your wings differ from this.

Perhaps side lamps like those on this Ford V8 van might have been used.

Peter

or this...

Also... the o/s wing has a cut out which at first looks like it might have been for a built in headlight but I think that would be going down a dead end. That wing has probably been cut about at both ends.

Can we confirm that they are a matching pair? Does the swage appear on both wings? More photos may help.

I venture to suggest that the inside edges of the wings have been "trimmed". Such an unusual line.

Paul there's no Photobucket problem if you read Dane's post:
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20016

It works well.

Thanks for all the replies & comments. I can confirm that the wings have been modified in an attempt to fit the Jowett and mate up with some remaining parts of the original wings which were mostly cut away. The swage appears on both wings.

The photos below show the wings positioned in place when I first aquired the car..

..and then nearly 3 years later after after much searching, patching filling & fitting of the correct wings.
