Hi all,

Having recently posted a photo of a frankly hideous (IMO) conversion of a 1980's Rolls-Royce landaulette conversion in the quiz thread, do any after-market (ie non-factory) convertible/roadster etc conversions ever really look good??

When I was a hard up student, my room mate and I hit on the idea of converting Morris Minor saloons into tourers and making our fortune. I remember it was going to be called "Chop Top Minors"....

Surprise, surprise, it didn't work out. Rolling Eyes

Just as well, really! Very Happy

Even factory convertibles can flex alarmingly - and they have a reinforced floor!

The Karmann VW Beetle cabriolet - would that qualify.?

There's nowhere to stow the hood!

These two versions of the Lancia Fulvia work well:

I've seen some home made Mini convertibles that looked smart - but just as many more that looked hideous, and who knows how weatherproof any of them are?

In the early 2000s there was one Mini Clubman convertible in this area.
Outwardly it seemed a neat conversion but whether it was a professional conversion I don't know.

One day however I was following this Mini on the A470 and viewed from behind it seemed to "crab" when proceeding even in a straight line.
In corners the deformation appeared more pronounced but many old style Minis looked like this.

Minis sufferer from alarming wear of the suffrage where rear radius arms attach. This makes them crab. I bought one and never knew until a mate was following me one day and pointed out. When I got underneath the frame had an elongated slot for a hole.
Moved it on quickly.
I hate minis.....!
