When fixing up the Canberra trip story by replacing Photobucket linked pictures with those from Postimage, I realised that the story was missing a 'Part 3', so here is Part 3 even though it is a few years late!

If you would like to read the story from the beginning, Part1 can be found here-

Day 3.
After our restful night at Adaminaby, we set off early to start on our return towards home. We drove back to Cooma, and continued down the Monaro Highway. This is a 'new' road having been opened up as more and more traffic moved between Eastern Victoria and South Eastern New South Wales, and the old Bonang Highway was unsuitable as a main road.

We had a good run along this well formed road, deciding to pause for drinks and necessaries at Nimmitabel, where we say a couple of interesting display items-

We continued on to the somewhat larger town of Bombala. Here they have an annual exhibition of all forms of machinery and transport, The local club has a permanent display in the old railway yards.

Motoring on again we eventually crossed the border into our home State.

A roadside stop in some timber country, and we photographed some Spring native wildflowers.

At the township of Cann River, where the Monaro Highway joined the Princes Highway, we were able to turn towards the West and work our way towards home, however, we decided that rather than push through that evening, we would stay at Marlo, where we had spent the night back in May.

Next morning we had a pleasant an leisurely run to get back to our home at Koonwarra, via Sale and Yarram. The overall trip covered about 1,600 k's or approx. 1,000 miles.

Thanks for posting, Dane, it is fascinating to see that area again.

My wife and I drove those roads in 1968 in an Austin A40 sedan loaded to within an inch of it's life. We left Cooma in the morning and drove along the thick red line on our BP map. The road surface south of Bombala turned out to be gravel nearly all the way to Orbost. We drove on the Monaro Highway to Delegate near the NSW/Vic border where we filled the car with petrol from an old hand operated pump. Because Delegate was close to the border, we dumped all our perishable food. Mistake! The food check was almost in Orbost, on the Bonang Highway which we arrived at five hours later, starving! It was one of the wildest drives of my life! We encountered floods, road washaways, and extensive road works at Orbost. Wow! You've certainly evoked some old and treasured memories

Its weird being the same age as old people.
You are either part of the problem or part of the solution
