I have a rubber cased Dagenite battery which I bought on The Bay four or so years ago. I assumed it would be dry charged and took it to a battery specialist in Glasgow to get it filled with acid. In my experience within an hour or so of filling, the battery will show some measurable voltage. This showed zippo, so I realised it was probably made in the ‘50s and put it on charge. I left it charging for a few days and all seemed OK. Last year I noticed it was sluggish starting. A quick voltmeter check indicated a dying cell which has now departed. I went back to the original specialist who tell me they no longer rebuild batteries. Not economically viable Mad

So is there anyone on the forum know who can rebuild my battery?

Thanks in advance

DB Wilson used to do rebuilds, but not sure if they still do Click

Like so many things in this throwaway society. Batteries have got cheaper and last longer. On my cars I sold the Mercedes at 15 yrs old still on the original, and one classic is still running after 14 yrs and I changed the other (which I bought 15 yrs ago) last year, but I reckon that one was 20 yrs old. One cannot complain at that.

That's a bummer Art, my father would only buy batteries from DB Wilson, he knew the old man personally and I always thought it was a case of mates rates, but they were actually the best batteries available back then 1950s-70s). Yes I still check what's happening but not posting much now

Might be worth giving Lincon Batteries a ring. https://www.lincon.co.uk/

Peter,

As I said to John, D B Wilson do not make or service batteries anymore. I was at their place yesterday and they seem to be concentrating on truck parts. Lighting, brakes etc.

The guy I spoke to was I think one of the sons. He suggested Lincoln batteries as the only manufacturer left in the U.K. He said they can’t compete with the imports nowadays.

Hello Art,

Dave Davenport uses Richard's recommendation. I assume this is long low type of battery that fits on the near side of the scuttle.

BTW the battery in my BMW lasted 10 years , it is in the boot ,away from the heat . From what I have read, heat makes the chemical reaction work faster .

Thanks to all for the Lincon heads up. They are doing it for me saving about £80 against replacing it.
