I think it probably works like: 'I've got lots of interest, give me a holding deposit and the car's yours'. String a few people along like that and he's soon made a few thousand ... _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

It certainly looked too good to be true so I guess I should not have been encouraging anyone to pursue it. I see it has now been removed.
Sorry folks,

I have always taken the view that if something looks to good to be true it probably is. Half the problem, in my opinion, is the availability of insured credit.
People should really take more personal responsibility. |

[quote="Ray White"]This should be a rewarding project. Interesting, nice to drive and cheaper than some.
I like these Javelins. proper cars, properly made, with proper materials.
A pity the tyres are so darned costly? |

Considering the low volumes produced their are plenty of Javelin survivors.
Nice cars in my opinion. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I remember as a lad I once went with my Dad to look at a Javelin with the expectation of buying it.
Unfortunately it had a severely cracked chassis so we didn't go for it. I remember Dad being rather keen on Jowett Javelins and saying they were a good vehicle but under developed.
To this day I don't know what their shortcomings are. I just like them. |

Crankshaft breakage seemed to be the main Achilles heel but I assume modern replacements are now available (at a price).
It might have leanings to a pre-war American look but I doubt that it would pass muster in British eyes as "pre-war". (and I'm not just commenting on the war start date.)

Yes it is probably ahead of it's time for 1950 - although it seems vaguely similar to the 1936 Standard Flying 12 - which is another of my favourites. I have always been attracted the fastback styling. how to screenshot on windows 7

Ah, but spot the difference in frontal view.
Too modern for British eyes.

You can get a variety of 500/525x16 tyres suitable for the Javelin for under a £100; 155x15 tyres form my Lancia Appia start at that price for a cheap budget tyre and go up to £200+ _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline
