But why of earth give it small wheels and necessarily low ground clearance? Fine on nice graded rocks as in the video but not so fine in the real world.

Cost? [Especially of tyres?]
Components in drive train?? {Use of cheap. easily available drive trains?}
The Steyr Puch Haflinger doesn't so too badly with small diameter wheels?
Neither do/did Hillman Imps on Classic Reliability trials?
Even such an [in?] competent off road vehciel sucha s a land Rover has it's limitations.
It's down to driver skill not to approach those limitations.
I would suggest the average drive in Africa would cope much better with this country's potholed roads, than it appears, UK drivers do? |

Wow! Now that is one impressive design.
Shall we use the ox or the Ox? No question.

Or, from William Towns' Hustler kit?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hustler_(car)
The shape isn't a unique design...like the Lotus Seven shape, it's really about form, following function?
The Steyr Puch Haflinger is the same.
The differences being, how stuff is arranged underneath? |
