I did read somewhere last week that it was all a bit of a "fix" for the TV cameras. Much (unrecorded) use of local taxis, several of the "contestants" can't drive at all, etc etc etc. I forget where I saw it now, might have been one of the Triumph forums. |

A TV reviewer reported this morning that little Noel Edmunds (remember him?) was having a hissy fit because when the mini ended up on it's roof, the "celebrities" were all banned from the rally... but the BBC insisted on shadowing the event and pretending that they were still in the rally.
I am reiterating what I have heard and haven't seen the programme. I probably won't bother either. |

I watched it and wished I hadn’t. To watch the clutch being burned out of a Morris Minor and the engine of an Imp getting ruined by incompetents is not what I want to see.

My guess is that, being a TV show, the cars would not have had even the most basic preparation. Combine that with incompetence and this is what you get. |

Doesn't send a good message about old cars, does it? At least Top Gear's old car efforts mostly left the viewer with a smile on their face at the end?
Cannot imagine the contortions to get Clarkson into a Sprite?
Having recently tried, and discovered that I can no longer actually get behind the wheel of one [without some serious modifications, at least].
I owned one once, when I was a lithe twenty-something year old....even an MGB is a struggle these days. Dunno what the world is coming to? |

I managed to get into the passenger seat of a mates Sprite when I was 20, but had to wriggle out of the door like a snake to get out, I would never had got behind the wheel, no, I wasn't fat! 15 stone and 6'6". Hateful little thing. |

When I was training as a mechanic I used to often work on a car that would have suited you down to the ground. A Jaguar 420G. I would take it out for a "test drive" but really I was just showing off to which ever bit of crumpet I was in love with that week!! |

In the late 60s I worked with a guy 6'4" and 18 stone he drove a fiat 500, always amusing to watch him get in or out, more like putting it on or taking if off. _________________ old tourer

Anyone remember the clip of Tommy Cooper trying to get into a Mini? |

It is 21st Century television. It is not supposed to be real or accurate it is there solely to entertain a certain percentage of the viewing public.
But, and but again, consider yourselves fortunate that British Television have not yet decided to screen some of the programs produced on the North American Continent.
Best to use the off/change channel switch. Avoid getting all upset and agitated, because doing so will not make the program(s) any better.
Once upon a time there was a generation of viewers who could enjoy and understand, "Tomorrow's World" and "Top Gear" |

You can't get into that suit you had then either.
The material shrinks over the years and so does the metal or F/glass in cars.

Thought so. I conclude our biggest enemy isn't the dreaded rust, but the shrinking of car bodywork over the years? [and here's me, thinking cars had got fatter over the years??? ] |
