Having just bought a Lexus I got to thinking about the history of hybrid cars.
I had only read about the Lohner Porsche...

I think that the Lohner-Porsche would have to qualify as the first hybrid car.
Hybrid commercial vehicles were popular for a while- Tilling-Stephens comes to mind. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Yes, I often quote the Tilling Stevens buses when some clever clogs tries to tell me that petrol electrics are a recent phenomenon! The technology may be new but the principle is ancient.
One thing that is a step backwards, in my view, is the design of modern cars' maintenance. To change the spark plugs on a Lexus hybrid like mine takes a trained Lexus mechanic over 3 hours!! It would probably take me twice as long!!.
Fortunately they last 100,000 miles!! |
