I cought the last hour of 'Carry on Cabbie' yesterday. What a good show of classic vehicles, seeing street scenes full of what we now consider as classics which back then were just run of the mill.

Anyone got an Black and White favourites for motoring?

I also like the old war films such as Ice Cold in Alex for the vehicles. I think favoirite black and white has to be Hell Drivers though, I actually have a copy on DVD.

Not so much black and white, but I have been watching the re-runs of "The New Avengers" looking for background vehicles. In all honesty I watched the first few in real time, then the rest at about 4x speed because I found them quite difficult to watch. Acting, dialogue and plot standards have come on some way since then, thankfully.

The Wrong Arm Of The Law was on Talking Pictures at lunch. It’s full of old cars including a DB5 being driven flat out. Highly recommended for old car spotters and Police Wolesley 6/90s.

Agreed an excellent film, wasn't the Aston (DB4 GT?) Peter Sellers' own car?

You’re probably right because the DB5 didn’t appear till 1964, a year after the film was made.

I always wonder how many, and which ones, are still around. If I had more time and nothing else to do I would be cross-referencing number plates on the DVLA web-site!

Also, worth having a gander through The Internet Movie Cars Database, http://www.imcdb.org/

I like the fact that airtime is given over to amateur films of just a few minutes long on Talking Pictures, there was an excellent colour film from the late 1950s the other day featuring towns in Devon. An interesting E83W ice cream van was spotted momentarily, I'll try and take a snap of it from the screen.

On 'Talking Pictures' the other evening, I watched an episode of The Human Jungle [Herbert Lom]...I find it very '50's in some of the attitudes......but that's the point, really.

That particular episode had Herbert Lom's screen daughter going out on a 'treasure hunt' to find a party's location. she was driving a very nice, early Sunbeam Alpine, [Reg no. 2 letters, 4 numbers]

I suppose what happened next would be considered typical of the time, not of concern, etc, but she had crammed 6 young adults into the car, 3 behind the seats, two more perched on the rear, plus a passenger seated normally. Then proceeded to drive around south London looking for clues!
Not an eyelid was batted.
Talk about a bus-load? Smile

http://filmdope.com/forums/107867-human-jungle-wild-goose-chase-part-3-a.html

In the above screenshot [from the website above] the Bedford CA is in fact overtaking the Alpine, quite rapidly.
My old CA could never overtake an Alpine....even if the Alpine was going backwards.

You're all lucky to get the talking pictures channel, I retuned the TV trying to find it but it's another one that doesn't broadcast to us third class citizens in this part of Wales... Sad

I'm on freesat.
Have been for 10 years, 'cos when I last moved, the terrestrial reception where I lived was atrocious...but there was a sat dish & cable...so I got a Freesat box. Joys of renting....but I don't have to fix the house.

Now moved, better aerial reception, but I kept freesat.

I think a terrestrial version of Talking Pictures may be Vintage TV?
